Car disposal

Hi all,

This morning I decided to take my old Ford Cougar 99' to commute. On the way to the office almost all the lights in the dashboard turned on and when I parked I couldn't turn it on again. It just makes a funny noise when I turn the key.
It has served me well so I think it's time to get rid of it.
Looking in the forum I saw someone talking about 'Mittner Muldenservice' in Aargau; they charge 150CHF.

However, when trying to find their website I found these other guys (https://www.gratis-autoverwertung.ch/) that claim to do it for free... Even they pick your car up for free.

Does any of you ever use their service? Free sounds always like a scam...

Re: Car disposal

If you deregister the car properly at the MFK, how can there be any scam? You don't want the car, the other guys do (the sum of the parts is far greater than the whole, in this case), so smiles all round, no?

Free is relative here, your car when dismantled holds decent value in parts en metal.

Re: Car disposal

There's a few companies who will pay you to take away your car.

The scrap metal has value, and in many cases, the car can be fixed/reused outside of Switzerland/EU. When I last scrapped a car, they took it on a low-loader (filled with other scrap cars), and based on the plates, I'm assuming it went to ROmania.

Re: Car disposal

Type Autoentsorgen into DuckDuckGo, Bing, Google, or what ever your favorite search engine might be. There are various companies which do it for free.

You might also offer it on Ricardo starting at 1 Franc.

It's all worth money. Filter the oil and use it in another 2nd handed thats on sale, or say thanks for the free car and when you have enough of the proper models drive them to Poland or such and sell them for nice black cash.

Re: Car disposal

So I gave them a call. They were here within 20 mins, took the car and that was it. Very sad to see my car off.

Re: Car disposal

70kg of dynamite.

OTOH, it might just be a small thing, like a bad ground or some such. If you fix it, you could sell the car it at a much better price than if it's non running/driving. So having a mechanic or a friend with a code scanner look at it might be well worth the money.
