Another one bites the dust! (Interio Dübendorf bought by XXXLutz)

Interio in Dübendorf is no more. So many good stores have closed in Zürich

In Dübendorf comes the store XXXLutz from Austria. How Switzerland sells itself out to other countries and multi nationals. Sad!

XXXLutz has been buying furniture stores in Switzerland left and and right. It seems though that they're doing a good job. Their restaurants are always packed and staff are friendly and helpful. I'm glad that they're shaking up the market as Interio is yet another part of Migros. Give competition a chance.

XXXLutz is basically an online store selling the usual Chinese produced crap.

Have you actually been to one of their stores? Also, how would that differ from an incumbent furniture store in Switzerland?

In Zürich one is basically left with Migros Micasa or IKEA for any reasonable quality.

And I don't have to go to their store when I see what they offer online. When they reduce every article price by half then you can be sure its rubbish

That old Swiss adage, if the price is higher, it's got to be better?

I can’t speak for the ones in Switzerland and Austria, but the XXXLutz in Friedrichshafen had good quality furniture. We bought a Natuzzi sofa from there for half the cost of buying in Switzerland and that’s when the EUR was at 1.40!

So maybe you can refrain from posting ignorant statements when you have not the slightest idea of how distribution and pricing works. Why don't you go into an actual store and try the customer experience first before denouncing a company, simply because they're foreign.

Traditional Swiss furniture store (Pfister) is for the oldies, at the same time it is sad that Switzerland sells itself out to other countries and multi nationals and at the same time IKEA is cool.

Skipping any meds?

I guess Ikea is the "coolest" if you don't mind your house looking like the house of everyone else.

Every house here already looks the same

Is your house painted pastel beige, pastel green, or pastel yellow?

There's a simpler trick to make flat look different: minimalism. Clean walls, clean floor, no ornaments or souvenirs, only the minimum of furniture to have some comfort: dining table, chairs, bed + night tables, couple wardrobes, office table + chair, a bench that doubles as living roof sofa and balcony bench, and wine rack in the keller. Wood flooring is beautiful, why cover it with not so aesthetically pleasing stuff?

There also another trick that makes a flat outstanding: keeping it clean and ordered. But this is much harder to pull-off

I think Omtastas's argument was more that, if they can afford to slash every price by half, it shows what a profit margin they must have.

I thought the sparsity of furnishings reflected the outrageous prices, and that the minimalist philosophy was invented afterwards to somehow justify the enforced spartanism.

Nope.

I was obviously referring to the interior of houses, though.

I remember someone once joked here a few years ago that they can never remember whose house they're in because everything looks the same due to everyone having primarily Ikea furniture.

No. The original price is really pure fantasy. Just made up. Such a dumb business this must be.

A couple we know had the same idea after visiting us once. We went to their home once and the first question was about how can we afford the car with our low income......a thing they assumed from the sparse furniture
