Where can I get a 150mm hole cut in a piece of wood - Lugano area

Looking to find either a service or someone who could take a window-sized piece of wood and cut a 150mm hole out of the middle of it. I checked with Jumbo, Obi, and Brico, but they only cut length and width. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why don't you try an actual carpenter?

Google "falegnameria" + your city and you will see a sea of options.

This reminds me of:
Quote:
When I see the sea again
has the sea seen me or hasn’t it seen me?
Why the waves ask me
The same that I ask them?
And why do they hit the rock
With such a futile enthusiasm?
Don’t they get tired of repeating
their declaration to the sand?
-Pablo Neruda

Appreciate that. I've contacted a few, and they're more interested in building me things and not just a simple wood cut. It's odd.

Why don't you drive to one, call me and pass him the phone?

In the German cantons we have the so-called "Freizeitanlagen"/Quartiertreffpunkte with various ateliers including carpentry/wood work. I don't know how's that called in Italian, or if they even exist in your neck of the woods. It's worth looking for these sort of things imo.

I'm sorry, my Italian is pretty basic and I don't trust google translate. You must have a friend or at least someone you're on friendly terms with among the native speakers, no?

Buy a scroll saw, it will be cheaper.

Or a simple jigsaw. Even second hand. CHF 25 should see you through. (You'll need a drill and a largish drill bit for wood, too, but surely you have those already...?)

I guess it is for an air conditioner outlet.
This is a tool you could use. It is probably not the highest quality but should last till the end of the job.

Yep, jigsaw is the way to go. Just buy a pack of blades and have at it.

Does it need to be exact?

It really will be very easy to cut a hole yourself with a jigsaw - max 3 or 4 minutes. Just drill a hole first big enough to get your jigsaw blade through then jig away.

Then cut it close! Or cut smaller and sand it out, depending on what wood you're using you could have an easy or terrible time of it.

If I was anywhere near you I'd do it for a beer.

I see you're a man who believes in the right tool for the right job. I prefer a more slapdash approach when not at work. Although at that price why not.

Use a kitchen knife and a shoe to pound a hole through the center of the hole?

Re: Where can I get a 150mm hole cut in a piece of wood - Lugano area

Using a jigsaw, particularly a cheap one, for this job will never give you a nice round finish, so if it's going to be at all visible then I'd recommend getting the aforementioned hole saw.

It's also unclear how thick and solid the material is - I've just invested in a new powerful jigsaw for cutting some 4cm solid oak work surface, which most of the cheaper ones such as mentioned above would really struggle with.

[Edit: Rereading, I see that 15mm thickness was stated, so yeah, that wouldn't need the extra power]

To address the original question more directly, I don't know if there's a Hornbach near you, but they do cut holes of any shape and size, at 40chf a pop.

Just get a circular drill bit like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/80mm-150m...-/401995831500

Another option - depending on how thick the wood is, and if you happen to have a Dremel that came with a circle cutter attachment, is to use a small router bit and cut through it in a few passes, going slowly.
