Why would he tie himself to a rope connected to a car? And how did he know the rope was long enough?

How peculiar.
It's fairly clear, that you've never watched Baywatch before.

Because a half way intelligent person in general and a educated lifesaver in particular will never just jump mindlessly into the water to follow someone in trouble.
A probably didn't know whether the rope was long enough but gave it a try. However, it was good thinking.

Living in Greece I guess one is more alert to tourists struggling in the sea and the stuff in the trunk is also different from what we carry in it.

Or A just fishes for new lovers in the sea on regular basis.

The thing with baywatch is the camera never really focuses on the bits one could learn from. Learn to save lives I mean.

Apparently ( I was told afterwards), many beaches on the island have dangerous undercurrents and lots of cars have cables / ropes in the boot precisely for this reason. All the locals know about it, of course, but there is no sign to warn tourists.

Re: M+Y (M+X) = McTav

A very positive outcome of this new formula is that my daughter is coming back to Geneva for the Gay Pride early September and, whereas in the past I was an unwanted guest on the count that: 1. It normally clashes with one of my yodel concerts and therefore there is nothing more "uncool" (I quote) than a dad in a friggin' yodeler's outfit mixing in with all the rainbow crowd. 2. "Dad, you're so old fashion, you wouldn't understand the vibe!" ... suddenly it's: "Dad, we defo should do the March together, I don't mind even if you wear your traditional yodeler's outfit". There was a yearning within me to hear this, a strange new path in life made it happen.
