Summer break started a week ago. So kids were going to school for a few weeks after the summer solstice.

I go to bed before 10pm because I want to get enough sleep to avoid wanting to kill my neighbours.
I know the motivation isn't ideal but sleeping before 10pm is a habit to cherish.

I don't think it's worth your while explaining.
What Full-circle and others seem to be saying is that if you did go to your neighbours and explain that your children were having trouble getting to sleep because of the noise, the correct response from them would be, "I don't care. I'm, allowed to make noise until 10pm. It's the law!".
I would probably try to phrase it a bit more diplomatically, but essentially yeah.

It's children we're discussing.

I appreciate that there's that oh-aren't-we-so-cool parenting attitude that children should be able to chose their own bedtime but for my younger two, even nine o'clock means they'll be functioning under par the next day.

Have you noticed whom I replied to? Notswissenough isn't a child and they were talking about their bedtime.

And kudos for supporting your kids' early bedtimes. Same here.

Yeah, and my kid needs to be in bed before 8 unless my neighbours want to hear him screaming in the night. Overtired and tired kids aren't not screaming and not crying.

Does it affect the kid's sleep if the neighbors are out until 10pm? If it does, what's the problem with closing the window until 10pm?

I currently have all the windows closed and I can hear the beat of music. Enough that it has woken me up twice.

This summer hasn't been bad, but last summer was hot enough that we needed to sleep with the windows open almost every night. I should look into air conditioning for all the bedrooms next year with this level of consideration from the neighbours. I don't want to hear about energy conservation from people that can't be bothered shutting up at night.

I'd never smoke around the house either. My wife detests the smell, both in the air and on me, so I only smoke if I won't be back home for a few hours. Otherwise she sends me straight to the shower and sprays me with Febreze.
I wonder what would happen if you attempted a dutch oven in your household...?

Are there not smoke-free areas at the bathing area?
You would like to think so wouldn't you? I don't think there is smoke free areas at badis but there really should be,especially with so many kiddies around.

Smokers are the most antisocial and selfish creatures on the planet imo.

Well, to be fair, so are kids. You don't see a kids-free zone at a public bath either.

With so many kids around it's high time for a noise-free zone. Certainly the parents will immediately agree, given how altruist they apparently are.

I think a kid free area at the badis would probably welcome by alot of people.I enjoy seeing kids out enjoying themselves though. I don't find them in anyway offensive, and unlike second hand smoke, kids are not harmful to your health.

Yes, let's ban kids from swimming areas so they don't learn to, or improve their swim nor start their lives with sport and fitness as part of their leisure time.

At the same time, let's encourage (or at least not discourage) cigar and cigarette smoking at these sport and leisure facilities.

Re: Smoking cigars in the bathing area ( on the lake )

Having raised two wonderful kids, I found the smoking wasn't really a problem. My kids never took it up and now find it rather disgusting too. Where I had the bigger problem was the alcohol consumption. And availability of drugs at the open air festivals, clubs, etc.

But that's for another thread.

What I really dislike is being splashed by people getting into or out of the water, so perhaps we could introduce a water-free zone as well?

Re: Smoking cigars in the bathing area ( on the lake )

Way back when Headmaster's could do such things, a friend of mine, then aged 15, was caught smoking behind the cricket pavilion. 3 lashes with the cane and then made to sit and smoke an entire packet of 10 cigarettes, one after the other. He was so sick and naturally we all laughed! Went home and told his parents hoping for sympathy and his dad stopped his pocket money for a month, no TV (not a real hardship in those days - apart from Dr. Who) and grounded for a month.

Cruel, yes, and today the Head would go to jail, but he's never smoked another cigarette to this day!!

Thanks, that is a good one!

(in all fairness, that can be a bit annoying...)

Any other annoying things about bathing areas?

Depends where you go.

The more upmarket-type resort baths often do.

They are truly disgusting people. Last week one sat by the onramp to the slide at our local park puffing away while watching his kid use the slide, refused to move away when asked, so all the kids using the slide had to go through his cloud of cigarette smoke.

Smokers are vermin.
