Blaue Zonen fee 300chf —> 780chf

Hi all

Seems like Zurich authorities are going to increase the yearly fee for Blaue Zonen from 300chf to 780chf. That’s a massive increase. On top of that, parking at night won’t be anymore for free. I am not sure how that helps with the already existing parking problem in Zurich. What are your thoughts?

Parking at night is not free in a lot of cities. I think it is 40 CHF per month where I live for blue zone parking (and that is not city of Zurich)

They're trying more and more to make cities uncomfortable for motorists.
Furthermore, I've noticed that in ZH, there are certain meters, which don't accept smaller coins (i.e. 10 and 20 Rappen), which is a bit of a pain in the rear-end, seeing as people have to scramble for the correct change.

The parking problem is caused by the amount of people wanting to park in the public space, so if you make parking in the public space more expensive is will cause less people wanting to park there thus you make the parking problem smaller. And imho 300,- per year was very cheap. (I find parking in Zürich very cheap anyway, even on paid spots with a meter tbh), make parking 10K would solve the problem immediately, but It be an outrageous price, so they need to find a balance somewhere.

Also public transport inside the town is I'd say excellent, so now we just need a few more hubs outside town where tourists and working people can leave their car to jump over on public transport to get into town and it would solve some of the problem.

It's the same in every big city in Europe, population growth, urbanisation etc.. the amount of people wanting to take the car inside town has simply become to big for most towns to handle, so somehow they must put a brake on it.

I think it's pretty standard now that newer machines don't accept small denomination coins like 10r or 20r as they take up more space in the machine than a 50 rappen and are worth a lot less. I guess it's pretty practical considering that most average parking hourly fees are divisible by 50r or 1fr.

Re: Blaue Zonen fee 300chf —> 780chf

Hmmmm, so if I visit someone in town and stay the night, I have to get up every two hours to either remargin/change the time on the card (both illegal already) or change parking space?

And while the city makes more money, they need to use it for the "meter maids" doing night shifts.

Travel by train and no problem. Which is part of the point of the exercise.

This is about longparking, nothing to do with spots that allow 2 hours max anyway.

If you park the whole night you either ask the people you visit if they have a visitor card for you, you use a visitor place or find a nice spot somewhere else where parking is free or grab a parking garage, so nothing changes.

Are you implying that there is private space readily available to be rented for all those cars parking on public streets? I would not think so...

The two-hour (or how ever long) parking spots are free after 19.00h (in Zurich maybe later, I haven't checked lately). That is supposed to stop.

However. Parking spaces over night will cost me Fr. 40.00, noted.

I'm in no way implying such. But if you in "less people" want to read "all people who now park in public spaces" be my guest...

LOL.

If you have a neighbour who constantly blocks the visitor PP and PPs that other people pay monthly fees for, Zurich might be easier.

The guy gets his car out of the garage in the morning and parks it on above mentioned parking spots all day.

Well they only want the high earning people ( the dirty rich ) in central Zürich. So its only part of their plan to get rid of the less well off. Its criminal what they do.

For all the new offices in Zurich, people have to pay rents of approx. 400 CHF per month for a company parking place. From that perspective, the blue zone parking is still pretty cheap - although you don't have a guaranteed place of course.

That's still incredibly cheap, a private space would cost at least 2-3 times that.
