Re: How is wearing the mask rule followed in your canton?

Was on a vacation in the French side of Switzerland (Lausanne, Montreaux) and Gstaad.
Except some shops and the public transportation, no one gave 2 hoots to masks. The bars and restaurants were in full business with the servers also not wearing masks. Was quite scary that literally no one seemed to be bothered that a pandemic was in force. Amazed to see the difference in attitude between the French and German side. We all know which side was the more carefree one

You mean the one reopening all the discos with a huge rate of infection?

First week after lockdown ended, I went to central Switzerland to visit a certain friend and I was shocked at how people did not respect the distance rule or did not wear masks, while in Geneva it had actually been the opposite. Of course, a couple of months on, it is as if no one is aware the pandemic is still rife .

Re: How is wearing the mask rule followed in your canton?

Yea man, it is incredible. At the Marzili here in Bern, people & strangers are practically piled on top of each other at the picnic tables/everywhere. Do they feel safe because they are outside? There is one outdoor bathroom toilet and they all use it. It blows my mind.

I was at a local cafe where my husband and I were enjoying a tasty beer at a small table outside safely from others. A group of three young women asked if they could pull up chairs & sit/use our table also and were offended when we told them no thank-you.

No surprise that they just had to close a club here over the weekend and over 300 people are in quarantine. I'm sure many of those in quarantine are still going out and about as there is no actual control. Selfish idiots!

That has been my observation too.
People seem much more disciplined and respectful of distance etc around here Romandie than they do in the German speaking parts I’ve been to.

Re: How is wearing the mask rule followed in your canton?

Very well respected in shops and public transport- otherwise not. Went to the gorgeous beach yesterday at Gletterens, was quite crowded but every body distanced and had fun in the lovely warm water- but of course, no masks.

Re: How is wearing the mask rule followed in your canton?

Where we are in Vaud its very well adhered to. We have to wear them in shops, I haven't seen anyone without a mask in our local shopping centre for a few weeks now (except for a couple of pensioners who were being spoken to by centre management). Same on public transport.

Yep. Cycling. World famous for folks who love to obey rules and are averse to risk.
I have very little control over whether a petulant fool without a mask behind me decides to sneeze all over me. By contrast, how safely and in compliance with traffic rules I ride my bike is entirely within my control. The most dangerous thing for me is inattentive drivers of bigger vehicles or those who hate cyclists regardless of whether they are actually riding correctly.

Is it fun wearing a face mask in 30° heat? No, but neither are clothes, if we get down to brass tacks. Still, safety and common decency should definitely rank higher in your decision making process than "wah, wah, don't WANNA". Thankfully, it seems that the users who choose to comment on here are all pretty much in agreement that wearing masks on public transport is the bare minimum.

Re: How is wearing the mask rule followed in your canton?

Feeling healthy after my Greece holiday, I went to my local Manor for some aubergines, watermelon and Feta cheese. They'd run out of Feta and aubergines, so I bought chocolates from Martel instead!

As usual when I buy "emergency supplies" from Martel, I indulge in an espresso with a mini chocolate Carac on their terrace overlooking the lake. I had my mask inside but removed it on the terrace (helpful to drink my coffee!). I was just about to step back inside to settle the bill when I was politely, but firmly, reminded to put my mask back on inside, for which I had no problem. Not everyone is a provocative rule breaker, some are just dozy heads like me!

Exactly. I've forgotten to put it on a few times myself.

I don't think it's rude to remind people, as long as you do so in a friendly manner.

Re: How is wearing the mask rule followed in your canton?

A guy got on the TGV in Zurich today, got an empty paper coffee cup out of his bag and sat there pretending to drink coffee while wearing a mask around his neck.

Many folk I see only wear the mask over the mouth not the nose.
In Basel I get stared at if I wear a mask in the supermarket and in the restaurants the servers are sometimes only kissing distance away with no masks.

Re: How is wearing the mask rule followed in your canton?

People seem to be adhering to the masks on public transport situation in Basel. I went to Kleinbasel by bus and back yesterday afternoon to do some shopping and only saw one person without a mask on the return journey, an older guy. I often walk to Birsfelden BL for shopping and it's noticeable that far more people (mainly elderly) are wearing masks in the street there compared to around Breite / St Alban BS.

What really did shock me about Kleinbasel yesterday was the amount of beggars (Roma) sitting on the pavement, along Greifengasse there was one every few feet, made me wonder why the police at Clara aren't doing something about it as there have been enough complaints in the press recently. Also saw one of the well known red light girls getting an old guy to buy her expensive shoes, she was all over him like he was her sugar daddy. KB really is a microcosm of society

Re: How is wearing the mask rule followed in your canton?

At the Signy Centre, near Nyon I was quite impressed that everyone over 6 (or so) was wearing a mask.

I then went to the Zooplus in Etoy, where I was reminded to wear my mask - I had forgotten it in the car. So I went back (20m at most) and returned suitably attired to buy more kitten food, which was on special.

My goodness do the petite monstres eat a lot.

Greta Thunberg strongly criticizes the older generations for not caring about the planet they are going to leave to the young generations now.

It would be good if she'd appealed to these young people to take responsibility and care for the inhabitants of the planet.

I went to Zürich zoo today and that’s exactly my impression. I was actually quite surprised, as normally the Swiss German part is much more serious (and tedious) than us Welsch!

Re: How is wearing the mask rule followed in your canton?

I went to the balexert bowling today. Outside the main doors was a reminder that masks were obligatory, and there was also a sign-in sheet to leave your contact details. Great, they take it seriously.
Inside, nobody was wearing masks, not even the staff. They had all lanes open, so no social distancing either. We left.

The police actually doing something in Basel? They are a disgrace to the rest of the country...the decline in recent years is disappointing.

Begging may not be illegal in Bern, it wasn’t in Vaud until a year or so ago. Now small penalties for the women but huge ones for the gang masters.

It stopped literally overnight.

It wasn’t just the Roma though, Nyon had a French Woman with a Marseille accent who was very loud and quite aggressive. Haven’t seen her since.

She has.

Through her Instagram profile and in her interview with the New Scientist, are just 2 examples.

Well worth learning more about.
