What to do with unused fireworks?

So last night while lighting off fireworks we were quickly overtaken by high winds and a storm. We took everything back to the house, but it continued to storm for several hours. Unfortunately, we weren't able to use all the fireworks (rockets) and have 8 of them unused in the garage. As they are quite powerful, I don't want to keep them in the garage until next 1 August! Any suggestions on how to dispose of them? I don't think the neighborhood would appreciate fireworks on 2 August!

Keep them until New Year's Eve? (That's only five months and not twelve!)

Re: What to do with unused fireworks?

You will have to ask the police. Fireworks can only be used twice a year: 1st of August and New Years Eve. So unless you get a permition to use it on another day, you will have to store it. Ask the police about disposal. Probably can't throw it into a trash bag...

What's the problem with storing them in the garage in a tight container? The fireworks won't go off in there unless the garage is already on fire.

Re: What to do with unused fireworks?

As others have mentioned, I would store them until new year's eve also.
If you want to dispose of them, as far as I have learned, the correct procedure is to soak them overnight in water first.

A metal container.

Do you have a fireplace? Then start a fire and throw them in. Don't forget to invite your friends.

Re: What to do with unused fireworks?

how powerful they are does not necessarily correlate with fire risk, keep them till new year, if you put them in a safe container or in the garden shed the risk is virtually 0.

Re: What to do with unused fireworks?

Just put them in a drawer and ignore them till new year, just keep them dry, they are perfectly safe as long as nobody plays with matches and lights the touchpaper.

Re: What to do with unused fireworks?

Fireworks will store well for several YEARS in a cool dry place. Keep them for New Year, or 2021 Swiss National Day. As previously mentioned a metal box is a good idea. They will not spontaneously ignite if you keep flames and other sources of ignition away.

Disposing of them in other ways apart from setting them off, is actually more dangerous. Source: a firework-importing ex-client, who served time after his instructions to soak and then incinerate excess stock resulted in the death of the man who put them in the furnace, when the cast iron door blew off.

Regards

Ian

I just keep them at top of a wardrobe or shelf in keller. Should be fine. Optionally, you can through them in BBQ
