Where should I take and show around someone coming from another canton?

My sister lives in another canton, and she has been asking me to spend a weekend in Lausanne (where I live) because she likes the town and would like to explore it.

Here is the problem, I'm kinda loner, in-doors guy who spends much of the time working.

And, I would like to take her to the best places around, but so far the only think I can think of is to go to Ouchy.

Are there any good places to visit in Lausanne?

Can you share your favorite spot, bar, restaurant, museum ...?

thanks

Lausanne is beautiful, although this weekend it is too hot to go sight-seeing, really..

My favorite spot is probably Ouchy and Cathedral, I often sing there and it is magic, the view...it is majestic. I am a hermit too, but a couple of places I stumbled upon over the years: My favorite bar is Les Gosses du Quebec (pool tables, hockey theme, always fun), my fav resto is Bleu Lézard (really chic and fresh food), Flon has a cool atmosphere too when not too packed - there is a really good Turkish place there with immense portions. Museums - M of Natural History and M of Archeology and History. Aquatis was fun, too, stay in a hotel there if you want to spoil her but dunno how it is. I am sure there will be good art in LS too, I just prefer art in GE, ZH and BS.

Re: Where should I take and show around someone coming from another canton?

What age, how mobile, any particular likes/dislikes?

If your feet are holding you, my recommended route is to start at Sauvabelin lake and then walk all the way down to lake Leman - visit Hermitage museum, Chateau Saint Maire, Parliament, Rumine Palace, cathedral, Mudac, Place de la Palud, Saint-Francois, and then get down to Grancy and to Ouchy by side of the metro. Then Olypics museum and go towards Haldimand tower.

If you want to get out on a second day, go to the Vineyards, start at Grandvaux and walk all the way to Vevey if you can

Plenty of restaurants and terraces along the way to enjoy the views

Take her to Place de la Palud and have lunch outside at Le Raisin in the center of the square. Perfect for people watching. Excellent salads.

Re: Where should I take and show around someone coming from another canton?

From Lausanne,
  • Lavaux wine region, a village like Cully or Lutry
  • Evian and do the Evian Water tour if its running
  • Montruex and Chateaux Chillion is really a must
  • A boat trip
  • Bex salt mines
  • Aigle for a wonder, wine tasting and castle visit
  • St Prex is a nice place for a coffee and look
  • Charlie Chaplin museum is amazing
  • Nestle tour
  • A general wonder around Lausanne in itself is really nice

Thats of course close to Lausanne and canton Vaud. Geneva and Yvoire wouldnt be too far to pay a visit to either

The restaurant at the Chateau d'Ouchy. Great food and my personal favourite.

From Lausanne? Montreux, Lavaux, Chateau Chillon or - of course - Zermatt/Matterhorn.
