How legal is to open garbage?

Hi all. Today happened to me a real nice situation.
The agency that rent me the flat sent me a letter with pictures of my opened garbage where they identified me by my personal documents. They sent me a fine to pay because I have not correctly separated the garbage.

How legal is this action to open garbage and identify me?

Thanks.

You threw it away. So probably. It works for identity thieves, why not the officials? All I know is you gotta do it properly or else!

What exactly did they complain about?
Have you been putting glass bottles and tins in with the non-recycleable rubbish?

You should have got a warning letter first, right?

Yes correct. I want to pay for my mistake but I want to understand how much is legal to open garbage to identify me. I know garbage is not my property anymore but still the property goes to the municipality I suppose

Is it actually illegal to put recyclable things in the normal taxed rubbish bags?
I thought the taxed bags were to encourage people to recycle, I didn’t think it was an obligation to do so.

You know what happens. You pick up a rubbish sack and there‘s a chinking of glass bottles. As you put it down, oh dear, it bursts open.

Deary deary me. What falls out? If it isn‘t the Felpone‘s empty gin bottles and their tax return and old bank statements.

Obviously the Felpones are rubbish at rubbish...

Yes, to identify the author of the wrongful garbage collection.
It's common practice here in CH - not joking.

.
Can the agency do that? Or is it the Gemeinde (via the agency).

If the former, can I fine people that do things that I don't like?

The person who pushed in front of me in the supermarket queue: 100 CHF
The person who ordered a cappucino after lunch: 100 CHF
The person who blew smoke in my face: 1000 CHF

Of course they can. The fine is similar to the following offenses:
- Flushing the toilet after 10 pm
- Not perfectly aligning piles of paper of paper

Re: How legal is to open garbage?

In numerous jurisdictions that have considered this question, I believe the unanimous view is that as you have thrown it away you no longer own it. But that doesn’t obviate your responsibility to have disposed of it in accordance with the rules.

If you didn’t want it read, why did you place it into the public domain?

Documents in the poubelle? What were you thinking?

Re: How legal is to open garbage?

A private person or company can not give your a fine. That is plain rubbish. So what are you talking about? Trash?

So: What are you accused of, by whom, and what penalty is there? Best is you show us an anonymized photo of the demand you got.

To answer you question: I am not aware about a law which would make it illegal. Hence, most likely fully legal.

Re: How legal is to open garbage?

Thinnk yourself lucky you just got a fine. In the UK, they refuse to take your rubbish away and you're stuck with it until the next collection, which can be 3 weeks away.
