Actually I am "technical" (physics grad), and considering that quadratic is a polynomial function with an exponent of 2, one could say that I wasn't technically wrong. But I wrote that (probably, I can't remember now, it was months ago) in a rather non-technical, metaphorical sense.
So linear is also exponential because the exponent is 1. And sinusoidal is because it's related to e to the ix?

Jolly good.

Re: 5G tower on roof

I live on 5th floor/top most floor and there is a tower above me. Depending on which room I am in, I am always less than 15m away from it. I don't see it as there is a concrete flat roof separating me from it.

Do I need to be worried now?

I would say you were technically wrong: an exponential function is one where the argument (distance in this case) is in the exponent. E.g. 2^n is exponential, but n^2 is only polynomial.

But you can redeem yourself by answering the question of what the inverse square law tells us about the nature of reality (this is one of my favourite interview questions).

No, only if you have had lingering sporting injuries for the last few years.

It cannot tell us if you are a know it all in reality or only online. Sort of a Schrodingers cat type situation until we meet face to face.

That should really be know-it-all (i.e. hyphenated). I'm probably even more insufferable in reality, but you're right that we'd have to meet for you to know for sure. I think of current EF members, only lost_inbroad has met me in person, but I don't know what he thought of me.

You know they're made for hitting. Hard hitting.

So what are you planing to do? Move away? (Fat chance of solving the problem ), start a scientific project including all family members and their reactions?

'groan'

We will move away, question is how soon. Have a kid on the way and an active puppy so a single bedroom won't last too long.

Issue is finding something else. Being two 'foreigners' with limited income, this flat took us almost 4 years of rejections to find (after living in 14 m2 for 5 years ) I really want to avoid doing it again until we find something suitable we can afford. A rent reduction would ease this stress though.

Of course our potential tower will be closer to our whole flat if you consider the concrete roof - I am fairly confident on its faraday shielding though.

The city has required physical barriers around the tower so no one can get too close.

I can't get to it as the access door is locked.
Edit- Workers come almost every couple of months to do stuff on it. Upgrade parts, settings? No idea!

No wait, this could be a pretty cool topic of discussion.

Are we talking quantum nonlocality, or are we getting strictly philosophical?

Re: 5G tower on roof

My mother has a couple of 4G (not 5 G) towers on top of her apartment building for a few years now. The rent paid by the Tel company means that the whole building has zero nebenkosten. In fact, they have more money than needed, so there has been some nice upgrade works done in the common areas. So she thinks it's great!

That it's not as interesting as the force that obeys a law like this:
(e^−mr)/r .

That would give my location away I have to be around 150 m away from the building to be able to see part of it.

Looks similar to this

What I'm getting at is that the inverse square law is equivalent to the calculating the surface area of a sphere in three dimensions (4 * pi * r^2), so it's telling us that reality itself has three spatial dimensions (imagine a flash of light from an omnidirectional source spreading out as a sphere).

If reality had four spatial dimensions, it would be an inverse cube law (area is 2 * pi^2 * r^3).

So just by doing that single experiment (measuring field strength from a source at different distances), we can constrain the amount of dimensions that space has. Of course, maybe we couldn't easily live in four spatial dimensions (and especially more dimensions) since stable gravitational orbits are difficult to achieve. But that's a more anthropic approach.

A fascinating read are both the original Flatland (written in 1884), and a sequel called Flatterland (this one written in 2001). They deal with life in 1D, 2D, and other dimensions (going through fractal geometry, topology all the way to a 10D universe). Really cool stuff.
