Is it legal to skateboard on sidewalks in Lausanne?

I'm a foreigner here and I'm just wondering if it's okay to skateboard on sidewalks in Lausanne (canton vaud) and if people get annoyed by this. I would only do it if the sidewalks are rather empty.

Thanks!
Jane

Dear Jane - if it is noisy and 6am, don't. Otherwise I've never seen cops giving troubles to people skating on an empty sidewalk before.

Skateboarding is a crime!

That only applies to the USA, but not Switzerland. In Switzerland a Skateboard is classified as a Vehicle like Device and the rules can be found in Art. 50 and 50a VRV Here a link to the French version: https://www.admin.ch/opc/fr/classifi...index.html#a50

Mostly the same traffic rules as for pedestrians apply. You can use it on the side walk but pedestrians have the priority. You must not annoy them. If you cross a road you must have walking speed or less. You can also use bike paths (but not bike lanes). You are allowed to skate on 30-zone streets (but not 30 km/h roads) and 20-zones. If there is no sidewalk you are also allowed to skate on minor roads (any speed) when there is not a lot of traffic. You must keep to the right of the road (Pedestrians must keep to the left when there is no side walk).

Please elaborate.

In case you call a street what I live on and a road the same thing outside of town ..... then tell me, where is there a 30km/h road in this country?

Oh, there are a lot of those nasty buggers in Zurich City. Even with the oddity that a 30 km/h street starts just right after a 30 km/h zone ends Like Baslerstrasse at the Letzigrund side.

Others are at Tramhaltesteller Rigiblick, Bleicherweg, Limmatquai.

Problem: The start of a 30 km/h road ist just marked with a regular speed sign. A 30 km/h zone on the other hand must be marked and designed that it is "like a gate". in a zone priority from the right usually applies. A tempo 30 km/h road on the other hand can even be a main road (Hauptstrasse) which has usually priority over all merging roads.
