Just re-checked the list, as we're going away next week, sailing in the Ionian. Thankfully Greece is still not on the list, and it doesn't seem to be increasing its infection rate so hopefully should stay off until we get back...

So, OP, lots of nice beaches in Greece, sound good?
Greece was top of my list right at the beginning, before booking Croatia, but unfortunately Easyjet were only doing Santorini, Mykonos & Crete from Switzerland, and the flights were really expensive.

Yeah, we had to book a two-leg trip to Cephalonia, via Rome on the way out and Athens on the way back. Not cheap like Easyjet, for sure.

The worrying thing is that the return flight has changed, giving us just 5 minutes for the transfer in Athens, and the agency that booked it have failed to return calls. The airline say they'll try to do something, but it may mean staying an extra couple of days on Cephalonia - really don't want to be spending a night at Athens airport, Covid or no Covid. A week to go, so we'll see what they can do.

If you miss your connection (which unless the aircraft is delayed you will) they have to look after you.... ie new flight and hotel and food whilst waiting for your new flight. So unless you are in a rush to get home, I wouldn’t worry about sorting it in advance.

The infection rate is increasing in Greece, but it's mainly in Athens, Thessaloniki and Mykonos at the moment. These two links will give you an idea of what the spread of infection is like, and the special measures and curfews in place, including Corfu and Zakynthos which have a midnight - 7am curfew on restaurants and bars. Probably won't affect you, but still worth knowing.

This is only true if it has actually been booked as a through flight (one booking from a to b, which just happens to involve 2 flights to get you there).

If the agent booked it as two separate standalone flights (which it sounds like they might gave done) onus is on the traveller to cover the costs/sort the problem.

I would keep chasing until you get the answer.

Ian

Yes, I realise that, but I really don't want the hassle, hours of sitting around, getting up at the crack of dawn for a 6 am flight, that this would entail. Much rather just delay the return and spend a couple of extra days at the beach.

Yes, it was, so It's clear that it's the agent's/airline's responsibility to sort it.

Managed to speak to the agent (Bravofly) yesterday, and they're going to get back to me. Seems that their systems or processes don't work very well as
they clearly hadn't flagged the flights as a potential problem. I'd have thought they'd be trying to avoid this sort of thing, not just for the passengers' convenience, but to minimise the extra costs they may incur as a result.

The connection may have met the minimum connection time at the time of booking, but flight times change all the time. These are fed back onto the agent's queue for inspection, ticket revalidation or rebooking depending on how much the flight time has changed. The vast majority are less than 20mins difference, but when it's more than that, they're looking at a possible rebooking. Sorry.

That's the process under normal circumstances and, unfortunately, the flight industry isn't operating in normal circumstances at the moment. It's a testing time for all.

As for staying a night at Athens Airport, I know that's not your preference but personally, I'd book a room in Porto Rafti or Vravrona which are on the coast 15-20mins cab ride from the airport. There are some beautiful hotels such as Dolce Athens Attica Riviera or Vravrona Beach Apartments.
