Where do you sell clothes?

Hi everyone,

I have de-cluttered my closet during lockdown and. Add two large piles of clothing. One pile went successfully to charity and one pile has been sitting in the corner for some time now. I want to sell those totally new or relatively new clothing items.

Iíve never sold anything before and tried my luck on Ricardo and tutti by posting a couple of items on each. Nothing happened. Got 2-3 views each but zilch. Granted, I didnít pay any fee yet to boost either.

Questions are:
1) are those my best options to sell stuff?
2) should I just pay premium fees to increase possibility of sale?
3) and other recommendations of sites or processes to do?

I have around 100 clothing items to sell and once I get my head around it, there are other items that Iíd like to sell.

Thanks for any advice.
A.

Wo-Klamotten-Online-Verkaufen

and ... and .... and ....

I was actually surprised to find so many places, I never knew that was a thing here apart from the regular second-hand shops.

Re: Where do you sell clothes?

Facebook Marketplace seems to be a good place to sell stuff these days. But price it to sell, not to just get a pile of cash.

Re: Where do you sell clothes?

As grumpygrptefruit suggested price it to sell, that is the key

if you had a pair of red shoes cost new 200, how much would shop sell in a sale, then the blue cross sale price, you need to be lower. Some rare design items do retain price better, but in general you will be looking at reasonable price and how much commission you might pay by selling method, as well as how much postage charges might be added to sale price when that necessary.

relevant photos of item, size and condition important by description when selling and make sure you list in the correct part of any selling site

good luck

Re: Where do you sell clothes?

For tutti, anibis, etc., in addition to what others have said, about "price to sell", here are some other tips.
Tell the truth only. Say it like it is.
  1. Do not write only in English, but use the local language, too.
  2. Make your title informative: not just "dress" but "Pretty, floral summer dress, grey and yellow, cotton, size NN".
  3. Describe your item further. Don't make the potential purchaser work, by having to look up the info. Don't say: "description as in photos" or "as on the designer's website".
  4. Name the type of textile, but also describe it: soft, silky, robust, coarse-weave, shiny, crease-resistant, etc.
  5. Where applicable, name more than one type of use: e.g. office blazer, business suit, smart outing, for your next interview, or else: party dress, wedding guest, cocktail.
  6. If the item is special, expensive or delicate, write briefly about its care.
  7. Where applicable, add "used only in an non-smoking environment" or "no pets at home".
  8. State the condition: much-loved, hardly used, almost as new, small signs of use, etc.
  9. Honestly declare any defects, and photograph those clearly.
  10. Upload as many photos as the site permits, or at the minimum 3 photos.
  11. Include a ruler showing, or a well-known item, such as a Swiss coin or a small pack of paper tissues, to indicate the size of the pattern, or the angle of a sleeve, or amy defect.
  12. Specifically for clothes: if possible, photograph them on a model (pixel out or cut off the face) or on a sewing bust. A filled out garment is much more appealing than one hung on a hanger or laid out flat.
  13. If there is any label, be sure to photograph that clearly. If the label is crinkled, iron it flat.
  14. State several options for payment.
  15. State several options for hand-over. Post and packaging: Fr. NN. Pick-up possible at Hauptbahnhof or in Uster.
