| | My e-scooter gets stolen, what I can do now
Today, I left my e-scooter (cost about 500chf) aside the Starbuck and then have coffee and stayed inside Starbuck. When I left, I found my e-scooter gone. I asked the stuff there and they do not know about this.
What is the best I can do for this? Reported to the police? I only have basic health insurance and I think I may not be able to get compensated by the insurance company for this

If not even with insurance you not get paid as this is gross negligence. If you have no insurance, your 'self insured' so you need to cover your own loss.

If you want any chance of getting it back reporting it to the police would be better than not.

Little tip for next time.. They are fairly hard to lock up since a chain for example can just slip over it, same with many U locks..
I use a pair of handcuffs, tightens nicely around the stem.. And people might think it belongs to a cop | The following 7 users would like to thank for this useful post: | |

Although i don't really leave mine anywhere that can't pretty much see it.. It's just that extra 30 secs of inconvenience for the thief.
I actually bought them from an 'adult accessories shop' online, couldn't find a decent pair elsewhere.. They kindly sent me some free samples of lube and a selection of condoms. Extra safe.

He's telling us he's not knowingly insured for this event because the only insurance he has is health insurance.
Maybe some other insurance can magically appear but more than unlikely unless he bought it on a credit card which had insurance, even then they probably wouldn't pay out.
Or maybe he wants access to Starbuck's CCTV recordings or thinks the Starbucks staff took it.

PS: I am kidding, you should report it to the police and I'm sorry you had your scooter stolen, that sucks. However you should NEVER leave a scooter outside and unattended with no security, that is just foolish... next time lock it up or take it inside with you!

They apparently don't sell them in the US because they can cut off the circulation to the hands if used wrongly and that leads to injury, possibly loss of hands and, of course, worst case, a bloody law suit.
The velcro ones available in the store he used to secure his e-scooter in San Francisco but, to his distain, it was stolen when secured with them.
Observations I have:
1. If you go to the US and need proper handcuffs, bring your own
2. It might have been the same perp who stole the darn scooter?

A pro thief will cut through any wire lock in seconds. Though a wire or thin chain lock may deter a junkie from picking up your scooter and selling it for 20 bucks to a stolen goods buyer down his block. You're a bit safer with monster metal locks but would you want to carry them on/with your neat lil' scooter?
I personally use 2-factor security when I park my e-scooter. I lock it through the wheel to an immovable object AND make sure there's an additional safety factor, like parking it in a dark corner and away from human traffic, where no one ever comes, or parking it where it can be watched by people, like next to an outside cafe tables. Or bring it into the building with you and lock it up there.
Like, when I went by train to Austria to watch European Championshis and took an e-scooter for the last mile transportation (super convenient) I'd ride it to the arena, lock the wheel and leave it inside the parking lot guard's booth (she was OK with it).
I became more vigilant after I went to see a Grand Prix in Grenoble, and locked my e-scooter to a bike rack using pretty thick wire lock. In the early evening when I came out of the arena the scooter was gone without a trace. I didn't have time to go to the police but upon returning home I filled out an insurance form and got the purchase price back minus the 200 Fr. self-pay. I proveded the original receipt to them plus a photo of the bike rack and it was enough.
