Livique furniture headache!!

Hi Guys,

Looking for your advice on something

I ordered a corner sofa from Livique and at the time of ordering the store did not have the individual sofa dimensions, just the overall size. I took the risk and ordered it hoping it would come in a number of pieces (as a corner sofa would naturally come in a number of parts).

Now six weeks before the actual delivery date they have provided me with the individual dimensions and it's too big to fit through my front door!

Appreciate that i took the risk and ordered it, but they are telling me it cannot be cancelled or changed at this stage. I said surely it can and i would be happy to pay the cancellation and any part production charges as it is partly my error, but they refused and said no i have to accept delivery!! Regardless of what i say they insist the sofa has to be delivered even though we will have a situation when it arrives as it is simply too big.

I don't intend to cancel all together and still want to order the smaller sized identical sofa but they are just not interested

Anyone had similar expereiences with furniture stores in Switzerland? and any thoughts on what i can do?

Re: Livique furniture headache!!

Looking at their website they offer a 30 day return policy & money back guarantee.
So if they dont want to cancel the order - accept delivery & have it returned the same day.

Somebody from English Forum wrote in the past that leaving your story on their Facebook works like a charm.

My sister in law has a small flat in Israel and she ordered a hoover by accident, way too big for her flat. She realised immediately the dimensions are huge.

Twenty minutes later she called them from our house in CH to cancel and they pretended it was packed to be delivered.LOL

She had the courage to say:" Cannot be, I clicked twenty minutes ago, you cannot pack such a mammut in tweny minutes"

It worked for her.

I don't know if the 30 day gurantee would apply to bespoke furniture (basically i chose the fabric so it's not an off the shelf item)

Re: Livique furniture headache!!

Take delivery, cut the sofa in half so it can fit through the door and then just glue it back

Glad that you have a good sense of humour

Maybe you could disassemble and then reassemble? Any chance you can link the sofa here?

Plenty, only the service will cost you twice as much as the cost of the Sofa.

Use your legal insurance if you have one, if not consult with a lawyer

Yes taking responsibility for your actions can be stressful.

The OP ordered a custom piece of furniture, did not both to check the dimension etc.... why should the company be on the hook for his mistakes?????

In Most countries the customer has the right to cancel a purchase within a time period , or even return a purchased item, especially when he asked for dimensions and they did not supply it in time. Most countries will have a cool off period.
The OP said he agrees he is willing to pay cancellation fees, and I am sure a furniture shop would be able to see the sofa to someone else at a profit too !
I am always by expats here who think its perfectly fine to bend over

Re: Livique furniture headache!!

What does the delivery policy say? Are they committing to delivering it to the final destination? If so not your issue especially as you tried.

They could use one of those outdoor lifts to bring it up via a big window for example?

Re: Livique furniture headache!!

Hi,

Let's be clear, i don't blame Livique for the error! They could not provide dimensions at the start and i took the risk and ordered. It's me that has caused the problem, not them and as i chose the colour and fabric then it is a bespoke item.

Update: They have said they are going to try and stop the manufacture and if they can't they will charge me 30% of the sofa cost and they will sell it themselves in their store (which i think is pretty reasonable)

Just kicking myslef a little bit now

As always though, thanks for your input

According to the OP, it's now six weeks before delivery, meaning that the sofa probably hasn't been built yet. If that's the case, you could expect some flexibility and a change in the order - especially if they would care about returning clients.

I had to get a sofa upstairs and I did exactly that.
It's pretty simple - remove the dust protection sheet on the underside and then un-bolt one or both arms.
Re-assemble when finished and re-staple the dust cover.

Obviously it depends on the sofa...

Re: Livique furniture headache!!

The arms weren’t really the issue, it was the 2.6m length and the staircase turning points.
