Flea-like flies?

We had the usual early summer fruit flies but I was a bit surprised to find them reappear a couple of weeks ago. But then I realised these seem different. They fly but are perhaps slightly bigger than fruit flies and also they sort of jump around, like fleas, if I approach one to discuss the matter. Any idea what t hese are and how to get rid of them? I've left a half glass of wine out overnight -- the usual antidote -- but unlike fruit flies, they appear to be teetotal.

Our apartment is pretty clean I'd say, and we have no pets. I can't think what these things are. It's not exactly a massive infestation but I see a couple in the kitchen every time I go there and they also seem to like my computer screen at night. They are now officially annoying me. Thanks in advance.

When you approach one to discuss the matter.

Are they the little greyish brown bugs whose wings flap really fast? (I call them fairy bugs because of the way their wings move when they fly).

We've had some in our kitchen this year, for the first time, and they're really annoying and apparently rather difficult to get rid of.

Hmmm...no wet plantpots around? Over-watered?

Compost? Stale water anywhere near your windows, outside?

I've not noticed them being greyish brown but haven't been able to get too close. They seem more like regulation black.

We do have a few house plants, yes. I haven't noticed them being overwatered but I'll check, thanks.
