| | Travel to Canary Islands still requires quarantine on return?
Hi,
Germany and the UK have added the Canary Islands to their safe travel list, so people returning to Germany or the UK from the islands are not required to quarantine.
As far as I can see from the online information Switzerland is still lumping the whole of Spain together including all the Spanish Islands. So, I can't go on holiday there atm.
Anyone have any better information?

As long as it is not explicitly taken off the list, you need to quarantine upon return. https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/de/home...nreisende.html | The following 3 users would like to thank roegner for this useful post:

The other question is: Do the Canary Islanders let the Swiss in?

AFAIK they're desperate for the money and not preventing Swiss citizens/residents from visiting. Though maybe they should be!
I'm gutted the Swiss haven't updated the list - there are hardly any cases there now, and far less than in Switzerland.
By their own stupid rules (ie there are lots of cases in Geneva) I should put myself in quarantine just from going to the shops!

Weird detail: people can travel from the Canary Islands to Liechtenstein without 10 day quarantine. Sometimes they're together with CH, not this time.

Personally, the Brits are on their 2nd week of school half term and piling over to the Canaries and Greek islands. I really don't fancy going over after they've been.

Zürich Kloten
So, if you have residence on LE, you can fly to Zürich and then take the train home, no quarantine needed.

The moment I heard the islands were off the German list, I booked Tenerife in November. They seem to have much more stringent security rules in place than Switzerland or most of the EU, but therefore dont do senseless travel bans.

I imagine it won't be long if all those in high Covid countries like UK and Switzerland, and other EU countries decide to go there as they can't go anywhere else. Many retirees will go even if they have to quarantine- as being retired affords them that.
Been to Tenerife many times, and both airports are hardly great places for social distancing, or particularly well organised! Choosing to fly currently for a holiday is just nonsense imho.

2. In my experience was the mask regime and safety rules in airports way higher than anywhere else this year. According to iata are there only 44 cases of COVID infections on aircrafts... compared to 1.2 billion travelers. Looks like the air filters on planes work better than expected...
3. I am traveling to a place with significantly lower COVID numbers than my home as well as significantly stricter rules in restaurants and so on. No, it’s not 100% safe but most likely safer than working in my open space office.
I always follow laws when it comes to public health but most of the travel bans make scientifically simply no sense. We know where the infections are happening- mostly in private gatherings followed by any party that involves alcohol and no mandatory seating... me going scuba diving? Not a high risk activity...

I asked a friend who lives in Gran Canaria what the situation is. Apparently, loads of German tourists arrived at the weekend and the local authorities are urgently putting testing plans into place for arrivals. Please translate the link in your browser...

The Canary Islands will urgently reform its legislation to guarantee through the right of admission that the tourists it receives are free from Covid-19: In a matter of days, without a negative test, no traveler will be admitted to a hotel, apartment or vacation home .
The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres (PSOE), and his Minister of Tourism, Yaiza Castillo (Gomera Socialist Group), have released tonight the main details of the decree law that their Government wants to approve this week after having seen, time and time again, how different national and European bodies rejected his proposal to implement the tests at source.' https://www.lavanguardia.com/vida/20...e-hoteles.html | The following 3 users would like to thank Blueangel for this useful post:

I call bullshit. Typical politician move to act and talk in two different directions... so no matter what happens he can claim “I told you so”.
I’d personally be all for mandatory pcr tests for travelers. Luxembourg offers those on a voluntary basis for all arrivals...

They've announced changes to the quarantine law today, recognising that Switzerland has more cases than most of the places on the quarantine list and that this makes no sense.
However I can't make out if this is just for professional travel, that's what it sounded like to me.
However Spain has been removed from the list, so maybe surf's up after all! :-) https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home...tml#1918240392 |

Honestly, this is not about what is or not. allowed.
In the current conditions, flying anywhere is just madness, whatever the rules or availaibilty of tests- and puts everyone else at rish. Surely people can wait until Spring?
Families are not allowed to see each other, never mind visit the sick and the dying- people are really suffering and struggling- losing jobs too. | The following 3 users would like to thank JackieH for this useful post: | | This user groans at JackieH for this post:
