Re: The Swiss-German Border Closure: Any Developments?

Thanks for the new information. Fingers crossed, also regarding the 100 CHF shopping fine on the Swiss side.

Re: The Swiss-German Border Closure: Any Developments?

I've got a box waiting for me in Weil Am Rhein, shipped it from Scotland 1st week in March. I've forgotten some of what's in it so I'm getting really excited .

Out of the stuff I remember I'm looking forward to new knickers

According to Südkurier, visits to children, parents and partners are now allowed without restrictions.

Article in German.
I wonder if that includes parents visiting children in Switzerland...

I don't have anything waiting for me, thanks to the kindness of the German officers in the first days of the closure. But I do crave for making some new orders

The May 15th date is for travelers coming from outside Schengen.

The May 4th date is for the closure of the "land borders" with some of the neighboring countries.

No news yet. https://www.bundespolizei.de/Web/DE/...home_node.html

So far the German borders are at least closed till midnight (expect for transit, emergency, and work related travels). Still some hours left for the politicians to come up with new measures.
I wonder how can you proove to the police that you are crossing Germany for transit. Are they going to follow your car all the way to the other border? Genuinely curious

You need some sort of proof that your goal is elsewhere and that you need to pass through Germany to reach that destination. Going to far of the route, of go shopping can be fined if they would notice. But they do rely on common sense of the people.

I believe this also expires today as well, if I'm not mistaken. Lets see what comes out of the news this afternoon but I would love a long enough window to get into Germany to see my girlfriend its been too long!

Don´t get your hope up too much. I am in a similar situation but I doubt that quarantine requirement will be lifted today.

I'm definitely not optimistic. But they'll inevitably HAVE to loosen entry restrictions, so maybe something happens today......

How would the quarantine requirement work if one is only visiting somewhere for a weekend? As long as you stayed at the same address for the duration, then it would be fulfilled wouldn't it?

You´re supposed to stay there for 14 days in quarantine. Which is why you are not supposed to visit only for a weekend.

And in principle if you return before the 14 days are over you could get a fine. But then who is going to check that?

In some Bundesländer you even have to report your visit to the authorities.......

Historic scenes were witnessed as swiss shoppers flooded weil am rhein armed with empty shopping bags and wallets full of euros.

I predict Long rows of dumb people being very disappointed and angry while saying "How could we have known about this, government sucks" after being unable to get a stamp from the Germans so no VAT refund, and a fine of 100,- from the Swiss to top it off.

Re: The Swiss-German Border Closure: Any Developments?

Here is the updated iata travel restriction for germany:

GERMANY – published 04.05.2020
1.Passengers are not allowed to enter Germany.
This does not apply to:
- nationals of Germany;
- passengers with permanent residence in Germany obtained before Coronavirus (COVID-19) or with a D-Visa issued by Germany;
- husband, wife, child and registered partner of nationals or residents of Germany;
- passengers with evidence that their travel is to perform a professional activity, e.g., commuters, diplomats, nursing staff, food industry personnel, specialists;
- passengers in transit to their home country, if there is no other travel option. The purpose of travel and the entry requirements for the destination and transit countries must be proved;
- US military personnel stationed in Germany and their family members;
- merchant seamen who are going to sign up on board or leave Germany for the purpose of repatriation.
2. Passengers allowed to enter Germany must self-isolate and must proceed directly to their own home, or other suitable accommodation for a period of 14 days.
- This does not apply to merchant seamen without Coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms.

Do you fulfill the requirements ?

The borders will be closed at least until may 12 Th 2020.

I wanted to see my family end of may , but delayed the trip to mid june, hope the quarantine order will be lifted until then.

IATA is for air travel, so I imagine they'll release something on land travel soon.
