Travelling across the border for shopping

Morning EF'ers.

Anyone out there with more detailed knowledge on what the announced border restrictions with Germany actually means?

I'm supposed to be driving to and from the UK, leaving in a couple of weeks from now, and would usually go for a small distance through Germany before hitting France, and then of course the channel crossing. I'm heading there to provide care support for a family member, but cannot see if that is would fall into the bucket of "non essential travel"?

I can easily detour to bypass Germany of course, and go straight into France, hoping of course that France hasn't closed its own borders by then and/or that Switzerland will let me back in on my return.....
