Re: Border closure - Covid 19

I guess we're looking at border closure soon.. I read that France is about to go on the naughty list for post travel quarantine so that would be pretty impossible without some closures I guess..

I guess there’ll be some sort of exemption for frontaliers as there was before but I think I’ll nip over and collect my packages this afternoon just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I'm just waiting to see which comes first: Switzerland puts the UK on the quarantine list or UK puts Switzerland on theirs since both countries infection rates are rising. Whichever will screw up our planned September trip.

In exactly the same boat. We haven't made it back to our place for the entire of 2020 having the number of cases per 100,000 is such a poor barometer too, especially when many more people are being tested now. Someone needs to wake up an put an end to this madness before a load more travel companies go bust!

Scotland has already put us on the naughty list.. It's turning into a game now, UK has more cases than CH and according to our relatives over there, the rules are generally being ignored.

We have pretty much given up on the idea of going to the UK next week, if Switzerland doesn’t go on the UK quarantine list this week it almost certainly will next.

Re: Border closure - Covid 19

Just received this message from the British Residents Association
Quote:
Dear BRA member,
I have just received the following message from the UK Embassy in Bern.

Later this evening it will be publicly announced that quarantine measures will be introduced for all travellers from Switzerland into the UK, in place from Saturday 29 August onwards. This means all UK nationals returning to the UK or residing in Switzerland and visiting the UK will have to undergo a mandatory quarantine of 14 days upon arrival. This will be official by tonight through our update of our travel advice. Feel free to share this with the BRA members and advise all to check the gov.uk website on the entry requirements to the UK if travelling from Switzerland.

So far, I have not heard anything about the Swiss plans for any restrictions on those coming in from UK or neighbouring countries.

I suggest that you check carefully with the appropriate websites before travelling anywhere.

Feel sorry for you..isn’t the quarantine policy a way the British government can save money on testing at the border on entry? Ridiculous.

Unfortunately not surprising. We have been "working" towards this for weeks now.

Same here, it’s totally ridiculous given they’re in a worse position than Switzerland.

Expect Switzerland to add the UK to their naughty country list. The held out for comity reasons which likely was a mistake, politics shouldn’t be in play, only science.

Based on what? Looking at the latest daily numbers Switzerland had almost twice the cases per capita compared to the UK.

Interesting that Liechtenstein isn’t on the list, despite both CH and AT being there. A helicopter to Germany would be the way to do it ...

To be clear, it is on the safe list. So you can travel from Liechtenstein to the UK as long as you obey the transit rules - so no stopping and mixing with people in Switzerland or France.

Basically drive to Munich and fly.
