To be clear, it is on the safe list. So you can travel from Liechtenstein to the UK as long as you obey the transit rules - so no stopping and mixing with people in Switzerland or France.

Basically drive to Munich and fly.
Apologies, there is only an approved list of countries. i.e. countries whoís residents are not required to quarantine. Liechtenstein is still on the list despite both Austria and Switzerland being removed from the list.

Switzerland made it

... on the list of countries that require self quarantine when entering the UK. Is the response to COVID too weak?

Is there a reason this can't go in the main Coronavirus thread where all of this stuff is discussed on a daily basis? https://www.englishforum.ch/family-m...virus-300.html

Yes, there is: that thread has 400 pages (!) of noise from the last six months. The fact that traveling to the UK is for Swiss residents a problem starting this Saturday is actually news and might be important for a few users here.

Well, your threat title is unspecific and silly and doesn't give any clue what it's about until you click it, you didn't provide a link to more information, and then you asked a vague and general discussion point about "is the response too weak?". So I'm not really sure how this thread is particularly helpful.

In that case it might have been better to give the thread a better title.

Based on what? Looking at the latest daily numbers Switzerland had almost twice the cases per capita compared to the UK.
Thereís more to risk than number of cases per capita.

Iíd much rather be in Switzerland than the UK right now.

I'm not saying the UK is a role model, but I also don't see Switzerland being much better off.

The trend for Switzerland looks bleak and I think there will be many more quarantine lists we will be put on or outright travel bans if nothing is done now.

For sure your parents do not work in ER

Switzerland problem will not be remembered from March until August 2020 but what will happen until end of the year.

The problem of COVID19 is all people without symptoms that walk free into Bellevue, any bar, any shop and so on.

All infections are now being triggered. Also Swiss travels a lot. Many people travel by bus, train or car what is not controlled.

Makes no sense to say wear mask in the bus and then they go out and walk in Spain or Italy freely.

All tables, clothes you wear in a shop...if they have COVID....you can have it.

Portugal when they are being more transparent in numbers every shop has to desinfect each table, each chair after customer leaves.

Do you see that in Switzerland? Good luck going to Paradeplatz and Bellevue in Zurich ....and see each chair being cleaned after you leave.

PS: Seems they are enforcing masks in shops now. A little late but still good

My parents are both dead so I can say with absolute certainty that they don’t work in ER.

I do however have several family members working in the NHS in the UK (Nurses, doctors, GP practice manager, hospital receptionist so a fair spread of roles) and know a fair bit about how things are there.
Our neighbours are a doctor and a paramedic and their daughter is a nurse in ER so I know a fair bit about the situation here too.

I can say with 100% certainty that I would much rather take my chances here than in the UK.

Maybe I should have said that I’d rather live where I live in Switzerland, they seem to be taking it a lot more seriously here than in Zurich and they do disinfect tables and chairs when customers leave.
They also regularly disinfect the fruit and veg scales, checkouts etc in the supermarkets.

Having said that I’m not totally paranoid and don’t believe that the spread from surfaces is a real threat. Adequate hand hygiene and not touching your face unless necessary plus social distancing and not couching and sneezing in your hands or the air are all that’s necessary in my opinion.

So Neuchatel has same behaviour as Porto.

Zurich is more like Lisbon. Everyone gathering, partying in clubs, sitting hundreds in the floor in Bellevue.

That will have consequences. I work as chaos engineer so i see chaos in these behaviours

Yes, especially if compared to Germany, Switzerland's handling of this crisis is a joke, and putting the country's reputation at risk.

Hungary to close it's border to all foreign citizens except those that are resident in Hungary
as from Tuesday 1st September amid a surge of Covid infections across western Europe.

The Hungarian border closure could be in place for a month.

Re: Border closure - Covid 19

In fact I wouldn't be at all surprised that Governments across Europe would prefer to implement
border closures or make it so difficult for foreigners & tourists to travel & enter countries across
Europe ( due to Covid tests, quarantine, etc ) to make international travel almost impossible.

Therefore the autumn months are likely to see international travel grind to a standstill
with some countries like Hungary resorting to closing their borders to foreigners,
together with local lockdowns in areas where the Covid infection rate is high - rather
than resort to any nationwide lockdowns.

Re: Border closure - Covid 19

Googling around I found that just a handful of fines have been handed out for breaking the UK quarantine regulations. Has anyone tried to circumnavigate this by either ignoring it or flying from an airport in a country that still has a travel corridor open? I'm seriously considering driving up to Frankfurt or down to Milan for a flight to the UK in the Autumn, obviously there's still a risk that either Italy or Germany could be on the list by then.
