We have Dyson v7 and am happy. Rarely use the stronger setting.

I am surprised for carpets as we have some rather expensive carpets and they are fine but I use dyson only on weakest on them once a month. I don't use it on qom silk carpet. I use strongest setting on mid-range woollen carpets from time to time and are completely fine. Be careful to stay away from fringes though.
I think for my parents it was a loose weave wool that nubbed up horribly. It was older carpet but had held up well and was still in good condition. They planned to replace it anyway and have since replaced it with hard surfaces so in the end it was a bit of a moot point and we all got a kick out of it.

Our v11 we use on the lightest setting almost always. We get a full hour out of one charge. My only complaint if you will is how often I have to empty it because of all the dog hair but it is so practical, we really appreciate it.

Re: Dyson (Rant and alternatives)

Has anyone got the Miele Triflex HX1? What are their Customer Service like? Dyson CS is sooooo bad, I can't bring myself to buy another. And my research has shown Dyson breakages are very common.

Re: Dyson (Rant and alternatives)

I'm on my second Dyson in my house back in Scotland (the Dyson ball). I wouldn't have another one, too heavy for a start, esp if you need to do stairs. I have to take it apart to carry it upstairs if I need to do the upper rooms when I'm there. The actual stairs I do with a Dirt Devil Handy which has 100ft of cable (I have a big staircase that turns twice).

My sister bought herself a GTech Air Ram and swears by it as it compacts everything, but she says the downside is it's very noisy.

I wouldn't buy the Dyson uprights, way too heavy. Only considering the V series.

Re: Dyson (Rant and alternatives)

Why not take it apart and fix it? It's the environmentally conscious thing to do. Albeit that they sell RUBBISH products now! I have a Dyson v6 still going strong

We have had a couple of dysons, and they are not very robust.

Henry is the answer. It will be cockroaches and Henry hoovers ruling the world after the apocalypse.
