| | Swiss Post - slow recently?
Is it just me or does the post seem much slower now due to corona? There doesn't seem to be as many delivery days either...
I'm expecting some redirected mail and last time I did that (August) it was pretty fast, but now it seems to be taking ages (the post I'm expecting is also unregistered so that adds to the frustration...). |

I had to sent something to Cyprus. The lady at the post office said 3-6 days. It arrived after 3 weeks

I agree with you, deliveries are taking longer. A Post parcels which should be delivered next day are often arriving two or three days later. The postman told us it's due to the volume of packets being sent but then you'd think they'd employ more people?
In fact, an online firm my wife consults to, is receiving so many complaints of delays they have now stopped completely with Swiss Post and use DPD and DHL instead.

Nespresso has stoped using the post for deliveries, now using the worst courier company in Switzerland, DHL. Every shipment I’ve received has been damaged.
And it takes a lot to damage an aluminium capsule in a cardboard sleeve.

In the past few weeks, things sent A post seem to take 2-4 days for delivery rather than arriving the next day as expected.
However, B post is still taking 3-4 days as it always has, I've not seen any change there.
Mail to and from the US is all over the ballpark. Fastest time recently was 5 days, slowest time 3 months. No pattern, rhyme, or reason.

Customs clearance with many workers ill also slows down the process. Funnelling the same volume of mail via fewer ports is going to slow the process down.

Malta to London has gone from 7 flights a day to 2 flights a week, post is severely delayed as a result.

I will say though that last year I received a batch of capsules where every nearly one in the sleeve was damaged although the outer box was fine. I assumed it was a manufacturing defect and quality control failure. As the capsules still functioned fine, I didn't bother to complain. But I probably should have. |

The Post told me it's because they have to have fewer sorters in the sorting offices to keep people apart. Since then, in the summer anyway, A Post parcels have mostly returned to next day, but I expect next month because of demand they will take 2 - 3 days again (and that's usual before Christmas anyway)

I experienced delays, especially during the first wave of the coronavirus. The situation is improving, it is almost back to normal now in my region close to Zurich city.

For me, local post seems OK. Certainly international post is 'however long it takes'.

A bit aggravating - 10 days instead of 3 in Europe, and I paid Priority. Not enough air transport capacity, looks like.

I feel sorry for my post lady .. Her little van is totally over flowing these days. We're all ordering more stuff I suspect.
I ordered a bed for one of the kids from Galaxus and they sent it by post, 2m long and weighing >40kg . I had to go out and get out out of the van to help the postie.

Most low cost airlines, which depend on quick turns, don’t move freight (or mail) at all.

Prior covid all mail in Europe was automatically Airmail. Now - not sure. The customs I checked online says ZH so they must put it on trains. Just don't pay Priority since it is all the same.

Mail hasn't moved in Europe by air for many years. It is expensive for the airlines who are prevented from even setting their own prices for the service, that's done by the UPU in Berne, which hasn't authorised a change for decades.
They are also required to carry empty mail bags for free. They take up a lot of volume and can displace checked baggage.
