Re: Charges for Covid test

The Bundesrat are finally offering free testing, it seems. Up to 5 tests per person.

About time.

But it's only a home test, right? Won't be sufficient for travel purposes?

I doubt it will be valid for travel (would be nice though). It seems to be a money printing machine, those tests.......

5 tests per person per month.

I’m guessing if they’re positive they’ll require a second test for confirmation?
The objective is to cut transmission by identifying sources of infection early.

"People with a rapid test or a positive self-test must take a PCR test and isolate themselves immediately. The question of whether a negative test result can be defined as a prerequisite for participation in certain events or access to certain areas remains open."

Probably not, unless you can somehow prove that the result is indeed from your test and not from somebody else, like a family member I guess.

Bloody con artists... I wonder how many people have paid up!
The whole Test to Travel PCR testing in the U.K. is a big con, the fees they charge are so unwarranted and totally opportunistic of the situation. Theres a new industry that I feel is completely taking advantage of people and the current laws.

If that was true, others would set up & offer cheaper tests. Nothing to stop you?

I spent many years dealing with competition law matters. Studies I have seen indicate that a minimum of three, sometimes four, competitors in a particular market are necessary before competition has an impact on price. All you see before that is parallel (and deceptive) pricing. Deceptive pricing being where you end up paying more than the upfront quoted price.

Don't worry, nothing is "free".

All costs of these Covid tests are covered by the Confederation = the citizens. So we will have to pay those sooner or later ...

If it's easy money competitors will arrive, if they don't then you can assume there is not much money to be made by doing so, either by the size of the market or the length of time you have before people no longer want a service. The latter is likely an issue, so we can assume that the prices charged are fair for the risk taken.

Remember how the Swiss government told us that masks were not effective when the didn‘t have any?

Now when they have totally cocked up vaccinations they want us all to forget that and test ourselves out of the pandemic...

AFAIK it's only rapid tests, and not valid for travel. If you want to travel, you'll need a test that comes with a proper certificate from an approved provider.

Re: Charges for Covid test

I still don't understand whether any testing would be free in Switzerland from March 15 or people still have to pay for travel tests themselves.

Apart from the 5 home tests, as far as I understand, any person will be able to enter any test center and ask for free test regardless of symptoms.

This is correct.
PCR tests for travel will still be charged for.

Re: Charges for Covid test

So - a few weeks ago I wasn't feeling well. congestion, cough, tired - I was worried I caught the delta variant. I scheduled a test at Test N Go for a PCR. Thankfully it came back negative.

however - I just recently got a bill for 10 Francs from Swisscom? I guess they handle the billing - for processing and sending the bill to my insurance company (sanitas) - it's 10 CHFs - but I feel like this is a scam...

CMC Covid testing centre in Nyon?

Walk in centre, no reservations. Has anyone used it? I see quite a queue every morning when dropping wife off at the gare. They promise 15 minute results.
