Inexpensive Reading glasses.

I have been using the cheap (<4fr) Landi reading glasses, but they only come with the same correction for both eyes. The eye Dr. has given me a prescription with different corrections for my two eyes.

I don’t want to spend thousands, or even hundreds. I actually like to have at least 3 pairs, 1 for beside the bed, 1 for the lounge and 1 for my man bag.

Any suggestions? I’ve got plenty of old frames that I can reuse.

Re: Inexpensive Reading glasses.

Buy a couple of each strength and swap the glasses? Cost a couple of EUR in Germany.

That is if you have a standard strength

Re: Inexpensive Reading glasses.

buy two from Landi, remove the glass of one and put it in the other would be the most obvious solution.

And if you're really lucky, see if you can find lenses that are the same shape left and right, Then you can make 2 pairs out of 2 pairs.

Edit: In my very limited sample of 3 pairs I can lay my hands on right now one of them (a tinted pair for beach reading) appear to be identical L&R, althouhh they're not easily removable, but it shows that it could happen...

The challenge is that they are odd corrections +2.75 and +2.25

I’ve been using +2.5 but ...

Perhaps you didn't fully understand* the idea. Buy two pairs in the same frames, one at 2.75 and one at 2.25, the simply pop one lens* out of each and swap them round. Worst case is that you've bought two cheap pairs to get one pair that works and one that you throw away.

* The other posts were perhaps confusing from not using the correct word?

OK thanks, but I have only been able to find corrections in +2; +2.5; +3. I haven't seen any in quarter sizes

Never seen that in the cheap version, no. Probably best to wait for a 2 for 1 action with Fielmann/Apollo/Specsavers etc

Re: Inexpensive Reading glasses.

It might not be as stylish as you like, but check out Amazon UK. You can get 4 pks of various strengths for less than 20 per pk, and they have the quarter strengths. I'm not sure what shipping costs are, but it might be worthwhile if you're able to get 4 pairs out of the deal.

Random examples from a quick search, there are many others:

This one has 2.25 and 2.75 and comes in a 4-pk and seems to ship to CH:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reading-Gla...3185031&sr=8-2

This one also has both strengths and seems to ship to CH:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reading-Gla...31&sr=8-5&th=1

Edit - and if you want anti-blue light these look like a fair deal:

Re: Inexpensive Reading glasses.

If you are not in a rush, then get yourself some glasses from China (Landi likely gets them from somewhere there too).

Also, please pay attention not just to the spherical error (SPH), but to other values in your prescription - those are quite important too. PD is the interpupillary distance and it is rather important for glasses (not for contacts - if you have a prescription for contacts, then you won't have PD there). If there is anything in CYL and AXIS rows (not everyone has it), then such glasses simply can't be bought from a shelf, lenses for astigmatism correction or progressive vision are made individually. If you get somewhat right glasses, but not actually right, your vision comfort might be far from perfect (e.g. once got myself glasses with 2mm off PD and had regular headaches until changed them).

There are plenty of websites, where you can get what you need from 10CHF. Just a couple of links for example:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001325906223.html
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33009204295.html
Usually, you can simply attach your prescription to the order and get what you need.

Quarters of dioptre is unusual for ready-made glasses, but they are also available from China (ask for different R and L lenses when ordering and do not pay, until they confirm, that they'll do it). Not that I would recommend it (look reasoning above), but you can get them very cheap:

Not addressing your issue, but just like to recommend thinoptics:

It means I've always got my reading glasses with me.

Re: Inexpensive Reading glasses.

I've ordered prescription eye glasses from goggles4u to Switzerland quite often a bunch and never had problems with them. Depending on the frames and lenses you get, they cost between 10 and 50 ChF per pair. They're so much less expensive then glasses from a store, that i have no problem buying 5 or 6 pairs and throwing away that ones that I don't like.

The NYTimes wirecutter site has instructions on how to order glasses on line. They recomend a bunch of sites (but not goggles4u).

The main trick is measuring your PD - the distance between your pupils.

Fielmann prescription distance/reading glasses + frames can be bought for Fr. 50.--. I just got some for my father in law.
