Looks like a scam?

Does the Swiss Post Office send emails asking for payment of insufficient postage on incoming parcels from overseas?

The email included a "Pay Here" link that required full credit card details including the 3 digit security number,

The amount was Sfr 2.90 !!

The email seemed to be very authentic.

Re: Looks like a scam?

My post(wo)man takes the cash directly at the door. I’ve never had an email from the post for that and I’m registered for all the online stuff telling when stiff is on the way etc..

As recently as this week I’ve paid at the door.. The mother-in-law is notorious for not declaring properly or underpaying

It is a scam, do not pay & report it on post.ch

Re: Looks like a scam?

I would add that since I use the post website often for tracking, webstamps, printing postage labels etc.. I would feel pretty comfortable deciding if the site was genuine or not..

But I’d be majorly suspicious following instructions in an unsolicited email link.

Incoming from abroad? No, AFAIK never. The Swiss Post does not care if the other side has made an mistake. How much the Swiss post gets for an international package or letter is subject to UPU agreements and does not depend on the actual postage. They couldn't even know what the correct postage is as it depends on so many factors.

Incoming from domestic? Possible, but it would be a paper slip. In addition they can only kindly ask and you can ever so kindly refuse (by simply doing nothing) without any problem.
https://www.saldo.ch/artikel/artikel...icht-bezahlen/

Outgoing? Yes, possible. But you would get a paper slip where you have to put on real post stamps. In addition you could pay it online. https://www.post.ch/de/kundencenter/...nste/rees/info
As you can see it says https://www.post.ch/ what does your link says?
See https://www.globalsign.com/en/blog/h...a-fake-website for more details how to check an link

Tipp: Never follow the link in emails, always look them up independently or type in the known URL or your bookmarks.

Re: Looks like a scam?

In short, no.

They would much rather send you a bill after the fact with a CHF 12 surcharge!

Are you expecting a parcel from overseas???

Rather than click on the link and risk a malicious download, mouse over it and see if the website looks genuine.

Scam. I am getting a few of those lately. Check the email address behind the displayed "Post" sender. Clearly tells you that this is dodgy.

This is what it looks like when the Post wants you to pay something:

And guess what the Post office actually sends you this by post ;-)

Clearly a scam and quite a good (well, bad) one: it's well localized. Is your email address obviously Swiss?

I did a quick scan through my spam folders to see if I had something similar (one of them is a .ch). Closest I could find was the same sort of thing from 'dhl@dhlexperiss.com'.

Re: Looks like a scam?

100% (and a few times over) it's a scam, and clear as daylight. These crooks also send them by SMS and I got one yesterday on WhatsApp from a South Africa number!

Nope. I get them too. You can easily see the sender address is wrong.
And I get the same from DHL and who ever they can think of.

I also received one from "POS-DT" requesting 2.99 CHF settlement payment for a package awaiting delivery with a link. Definitely a scam.

Re: Looks like a scam?

To add, my Girlfriend has had a few txt from “DHL” saying package tried to be delivered. I checked the link and was to a phishing website.

Worst thing about internet “freedom” is that there are so many scams like this. Sadly the % hit rate of people who do fall victim probably still keeps scammers going.

The 2.90CHF is latest. You think it is a small amount to pay and then , if you pay, they have your credit card details.

Re: Looks like a scam?

FYI (as reported in yesterday‘s Sunday Times) it works like this:

You get an email from the Post/carrier etc asking you to pay a small amount. In order to do this you divulge your bank details. There is no package, so it never arrives.

A few days later you get a call from the fraud dept of „your bank“ advising strange activity on your account. You check your account online and sure enough some standing orders or withdrawals for small amount that you don‘t know anything about.

You panic, but „your bank“ has the answer: they have set up a new account for you to transfer all you money to. As soon as the money is in the new account in the name of Mr & Mrs Scammer, it‘s gone.

This should theoretically by hard to do in Switzerland, but I bet the scammers found a way...
