Does the post office allow credit card payment?

I did pay my bill with my credit card last month, however, I am unable to pay it now. The collector shows a refusal.

Have any rules been changed, or do some post offices allow credit card payments and some don't?

I’ve never tried, but they do accept Twint which can be linked to your credit card.

The following payment options are available:

Credit card
PostFinance Card Direct
PostFinance e-Card
TWINT
Payment by invoice (only for business customers who maintain a billing relationship with Swiss Post)
Debiting KLP credit is another payment option.

Re: Does the post office allow credit card payment?

I think I tried to pay for something once in a post office branch and they said they didn't take a credit card, mine was a visa. My partner then had to pay using her post finance card. Not sure if that's normal in all branches or if you pay online, we were only in a small branch.

Re: Does the post office allow credit card payment?

They never used to accept them at the actual office but I noticed recently that there was a sign that it was suddenly ok - I think that was because of the sanitary reasons. I am not sure if they still do.

Re: Does the post office allow credit card payment?

Is the OP trying to buy something? Or are they trying to pay bills?

I suspect the latter is Cash or PostFinance payment only.

I tried in March and they only accepted Maestro (any provider). I don't have a Maestro, which was annoying.

Went again in / around October in a different branch and they accepted MasterCard

Re: Does the post office allow credit card payment?

Possibly it also depends on what you are buying or paying for.

Are you buying post office stuff or stuff from the post office shop, or are you paying Einzahlungscheine?

AFAIK Einzahlungsscheine are cash only.

I was trying to pay my bill by my VISA card, which I did before, and now it's not allowed in the same branch.

Re: Does the post office allow credit card payment?

A while ago, I went to the post office to mail a letter.

I forgot my wallet, but I had my phone with me (with Apple Pay).

The clerk fixed a stamp to the letter and when I wanted to to pay with Apple Pay, he said that only cash and Post-Card is supported.

So, he removed the stamp and handed me the letter again.

It's a good thing I had skipped the long line in front of the post office (because I didn't see it).

I recently wanted to mail another letter (via registered mail) and the line in front of the post-office was 50-ish meters long.

In both cases, I went to the person responsible for our company mail and paid 1 CHF into the cash-boxc so she would "sell" me a stamp and bring it to the post-office...

I didn't realize it until I was done and people were giving me angry looks.

The line in Wiedikon forms from Seebahnstrasse, not Birmensdorferstrasse, where I approach from.

No regrets, though.

Love your details. It's not like I know any of the streets. No regrets, huh?

I get space-cadet-y when I move fast.

For some reasons, our post office line isn't long. It should be, long and every day. Post office is needed. I don't want more post office personel to lose jobs. Online post stuff is dull.

There is a solution for that: SMS Stamps (only for standard domestic A-Post letters)

Or if you have access to a printer: WebStamp were B-Post and even Registered is possible.

That's a really great tip about buying stamps with SMS, thank you aSwissInTheUS. I didn't know about this and can definitely see myself using it in the future.
