Internships for non-EU nationals in the COVID time?

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend lives in Canada. She wants to get an internship somewhere in the Lake Geneva area for this summer to come visit me. However we are quite confused by the regulations on travel and entry to Switzerland. Switzerland seems to be issuing some visas yet not others. E.g. we found on the official websites that work visas can be issued but not certain study ones or tourist ones.

Does anyone have any info on the current situation with the Swiss visas? Are they issued, in reality? What's the situation with the entry to the country?

Thanks!

Id say the best opportunities lie with the UN organisations in Geneva. Unpaid positions but she would be given permission to live in Switzerland for the duration.

Or perhaps some of the non-Governmental organisations like IATA or the Red Cross. They can obtain permits easier that commercial companies.

But all of these would be temporary.

... Unpaid positions
Depends...some pay at least a stipend or more to cover living expenses

Maybe, maybe not. They also follow Covid recommendations and working from home is now the norm. For an intern, that means online from Manila, NYC, Singapore, etc.

Well Covid does throw a spanner in the works for just about everything. The OP should be looking to the websites of the organisations and NGOs I mentioned, and others, to get an idea.
