Re: UK hits 15,000,000 vaccination target

UK promises to vaccinate everyone who wants a vaccine by end of July...

They've also bought another 50mio doses...

For once, I feel like the politicians are doing something right in the UK...

The funny thing is, there is now "choice" in the UK, with people preferring one vaccine over another... meanwhile in CH, we still have no significant progress...

Re: UK hits 15,000,000 vaccination target

As we know vaccination rates vary across Switzerland. Apparently the worst is Obwalden. On its current rate it will take more than 8 years to get to everyone

Figures from the Federal Health Office show 6.3% of the population have been vaccinated – and at the current rate it will take 63 weeks for everyone to get the jab.

ftfy

Rates with a small sample often aren't representative, they could do Obwalden in a couple of days with a few drive-through centres.

If the UK is so much faster than the EU countries, there could be a potential situation that UK citizens can travel within the EU with a vaccination passport while EU citizens can't.

Residents, not citizens.

Residents, not citizens.
Not necessarily - they are pushing everyone in the UK to get vaccinated, including undocumented/illegal immigrants...

By July, I expect a rise in vaccine tourism - I would happily fly to the UK, work remotely for 3 weeks, and get my vaccine rather than waiting until who knows when that the system here gets its act together...

But you aren't a resident in such a situation.

I imagine the nhs being the nhs you could probably turn up with a British passport and get vaccinated with no questions once we've done the priority list. Particularly given that they will only let residents and citizens into the country (inc Irish), so there's limited people who could conduct vaccine tourism anyway.

Things change quickly - 4-5 months (end of July) is a long period of time. By then, non-UK citizens will be allowed in. The UK economy needs people coming in and out. Simple example is the list of exceptions (e.g. anyone travelling for picking fruits and vegetables).

Based on almost 70mio people in the UK, that's 10mio people a month, or 20mio vaccines a month that need administering.

That is a serious infrastructural investment. As the patients start tapering off, vaccines for-cash (for non residents) will become a thing. I'll willing to bet two rappen on that (or a beer)

The UK is about to squander all the hard work of the vaccine rollout. Looking at the moment like we’ll be out of lockdown this year sooner in Switzerland than in the UK

Opening pubs from 21 June is ludicrously late. The over 50s and ill will have been done months previously, and c. 60 plus or ill double vaccinated. If they continue going down the age groups they'll probably be down to people in their 30s for a first vaccination by then.

I'd have made that date at least a month earlier, probably more like 2 months.
They would rather bring forward than delay, so I think it's reasonable. Switzerland may well have to reimpose restrictions.

I would rather they simply didn't plan so far into the future.

Switzerland did promise everyone would be vaccinated by the summer - I wonder if they've made some "arrangements" with modernatx to be prioritised given theyve set up shop in Switzerland.

Bersat seems very confident... “We can guarantee this goal - also because of the new supply contracts,”

I misread it - it's 17 May not June. That's not so bad.

Same. Just got the word that my tiny home state in the US is opening up vaccines based solely on age. 100% plan on flying back end of March to get mine!

"March 1, 2021: Expands to age group 55 to 64
March 22, 2021: Expands to age group 45 to 54
April 12, 2021: Expands to age group 35 to 44
May 3, 2021: Expands to age group 16 to 34

I'm just trying to decide if to book tickets now, or wait until BA et.al. all restart flying officially...

Also - just saw that Switzerland is considering selling it's AstraZeneca doses of the vaccine... thus reducing even more the availability of vaccines here.... also, where the UK is promising to donate their extra vaccines to poorer nations, here we are considering reselling...

Re: UK hits 15,000,000 vaccination target

I've just booked a flight with BA to Seattle for SFr. 930 return for the month of July. The same flight was 200 francs cheaper last month so, based solely on this one experience, I'd say airlines are bracing themselves to adjust prices upwards as soon as there's a hint of a demand.

The top four most vulnerable groups had all been vaccinated by Mid-March, that those responsible for 88% of hospitalisations and deaths. Even accounting for the 3 weeks it takes for the vaccine to achieve full effectiveness, this is an unnecessarily damaging and overly cautious reopening.

At this point some 60% want to be vaccinated, another 15% are undecided.

Expected deliveries, according to Tagesanzeiger:

Wow, you are the youngest person I know who has an appointment by about 10 years or more.
