| | British Expats would you travel to the UK to get the jab earlier than anywhere else ?
Would you travel back to the UK to get the jab earlier than your likely to receive it here or in other countries
in Europe ?
As you know British Expats ( so long as they're British passport holders ) can still travel to the UK & back
to CH again ( so long as you have Swiss residency ) even if it's an ill disguised holiday.
So long as you fulfill the other requirements namely PCR test taken 3 days ( or 72 hours before departure )
Take 2 more PCR tests after you arrive in the UK & quarantine for 10 days. All a pain & expense
but what if you get the jab months before your number comes up in CH ? & the UK wants everyone to receive
the jab in Britain, regardless of their immigration status in the UK; so those with 2nd homes in the UK
or still have friends & family in the UK could be eligible as well. BBC News - No deportation risk for illegal immigrants getting vaccination in the UK

With the cost of the flights and tests to get there (test before plus testing package) quarantine on return. And I assume you’d do this twice 12 weeks apart. Very expensive and time consuming. So no, not in the current situation.

It´s pretty expensive all in all, isn´t it? Test ca 200 GBP, quarantine hotel 1750 GBP and then having to stay there 10 days.
If you have the time and money?

All true but if your like me working from home since the pandemic began, have the use of a 2nd home
in the UK ( thanks to inheritance ) and therefore work from home could easily mean, work from the UK;
the extra costs you mentioned above can easily be offset by the fact there's no accomodation to
pay during my sojourn in the UK - why go for 2 weeks when you can easily extend it for 3 months
( boss is happy as makes no difference to him ) and of course makes a long holiday for me as well.
Other British Expats could easily have a 'long stay at their parents home' while working from home
in the UK - so really few obstacles in doing it. That way your still there ( on your long working holiday )
when your 2nd jab comes up.

Quarantine hotel isn't necessary for visitors from Switzerland (who haven't been in red-list countries etc)
In general, even without all the other stuff, I'd only consider it if it ends up being necessary for entry to some country I wanted to vacation in.
BTW *you're* ;-)

( at a place of the visitor to the UK's choosing ) finally British Expats ( for one reason or another )
always enjoy catching up with friends & family in the UK - so why not combine vaccination
with WFH from the UK and ( once its safe ) calling on friends & family in the UK ??
BTW - the spacing of lines & re-editing on Englishforum is frankly a pain in the @rse already
without quibbles on spelling, etc.

to the office being no sooner than 9th May - why nip over for a short time when WFH
can easily be done from the UK for weeks or months within reason ?
Boss doesn't mind & to be frank we can choose where we do our WFH.

I can’t see it being a popular option myself.
There are three of us who would need to go so it would work out very expensive. Luckily two of us have already had the vaccine and the third is getting it soon. | Quote:

Other than you might not actually catch Covid, the faff of it all brings nothing more - life here will be just the same - you’ll still have to wear a mask, social distance, restaurants won‘t open for you etc etc

You want all the benefits of living in Switzerland, to use resources for testing here before you go, and then take the vaccine in the UK possibly at the expense of someone there who might need it more... ...at the same time pretending you‘re on holiday? | The following 4 users would like to thank Hausamsee for this useful post:

My 92 year old mother has not had one, but then she can't get to a vaccine centre, the last 2 times she left the house was in an ambulance going to hospital for observations overnight. UK is way ahead of what they are claiming.

I'm managed to dodge the covid bullet for more than a year by adopting basic precautions. I can wait a few more months since nothing much will change in that behavior even after I've had it.

So many people caught it symptom free. I can’t believe I’ve not had it, the number of tourists I’m in contact with everyday. Either I’ve had it symptom free or it’s no where near as contagious as people say.

Englishforum is still a pain in the @rsre like clicking on Quote - to include the posters message in the post and yet it comes back blank, I've lost count of the number of times that occurs.

Very tempting. But you still need the Covid all clear to get back into Switzerland - so test timing quite important if you are doing a day return!
And...you're not denying anyone a jab - England is doing a cracking job and there is no shortage of vaccinations.... famous last words..(Although I am sure I read on the NHS website that if you are resident overseas, then you have the jab in that country.)

It's like the debate on private health insurance - in a perfect world there would be no need for private health
care as all citizens will be cared for irrespective of who or where they come from - from the cradle to the grave.
