Go to your locally owned independent butcher ... there are some Migros and Coop that have decent butchers, but they are few and far between... they are usually at the premium city center locations. (Big Coop and Migros here in downtown Bern have excellent butchers, honestly impressive considering other experiences I've had.)

I once got yelled at at Migros after spending 80 CHF on a massive piece of organic salmon, as I asked the fishmonger to divide them in two pieces and package them separately (one package was to go into the freezer). Zero customer service, quality isn't usually better and it can cost more.
I always found them very attentive with customers. I don't get why so many people complain about the service in shops here.

Re: Butcher stations Migros Coop

The so called butcher shops in the swiss supermarkets make me laugh especially when I consider the fair I get back home with a visit to the supermarket. A lot of the supermarket chains have copped on that people will pay top dollar for quality meats these days and have collaborations with famous butchers that makes the whole shopping and eating experience top notch.

For quality meat - or a particular cut of meat not found in the supermarket - I go to Hornecker at Albisriederplatz. Maybe a little more expensive than the supermarkets but friendly service from a family-run business that has been going for several decades.

Migros (for all you bunny-lovers) has Hungarian rabbit, frozen. Last time I bought it (summer?), the cost was CHF 12/kg. It's pretty good, and I used to raise my own...

Migros rabbits from Hungary are raised under Swiss standards too, which is good.

What does the situation "back home" have to do with how it's here?

You seem to have immigrated almost a decade ago but still haven't arrived. So much time wasted, so sad.

Itís a common conversation gripe with many expats from different countries here that the supermarkets have a fairly crappy butchering service.

Iím here for a good time not a long time you saddo.

That is an old tradition, the butchers would give us a slice of Cervelat when we were in their shop. And I tell you, that was highly appreciated as a kid.

I'm surprised they still do that, I've not seen it in decades.
I've often see our local butcher give children a slice of something... a happy child makes for an happier customer. And he's all about customer service.

I prefer to go to the local butcher, as he is such a nice person. Very good quality meat, locally sourced whenever possible, willing to special cut or special order, etc. A little gem of a village business.

When the local guy is closed for holidays, though, I've gone to the larger area Coop's butcher counter. They seem fine, just not as personal as our village butcher.

You're lucky to have a village butcher. They are "dying out" around here.

Perhaps because the butchers back home are just so, so much better, it's difficult to forget.

This little market town in the U.K. has four or five butchers. You can see what they have on offer. It's local, it's seasonal, it's fresh. What's not to like.

Same town, 50m from the last one:

A slur is not an argument. It's a pity you remove yourself from the discussion that way.
