I'm looking for U.S.A. and Germany mailing addresses

Hi all. I've been here before, but I'm not a regular. Message boards are just not my thing anymore. I only go to any message board when I need advice.

And I've always got great help and advice here. Hoping you'll do your magic for me once again.

I've searched here but haven't found anything that helps me, unless I've missed it.

ADMINS: I could't find another appropriate section, so please move it if you think it doesn't belong here.

**********

My problem is one that probably more than a few of you have had.

Many times I want to buy something from Amazon or another online retailer in the USA but they won't ship to Switzerland, or I want something from Groupon which is in Germany and also won't ship to Switzerland.

I've looked at hxxps://www.u-buy.ch/en/ but they are expensive and often only offer things in bulk.

I've heard that there are services that can give you a PO Box or mailing address in another country for a smallish fee. They in turn will send you the package when they receive it.

Does anyone know of, or have any experience with, this type of service?

Thanks in advance for any and all help/advice.

I can’t offer any specific advice other than do a search for “mail forwarding” Germany or USA.

Please note that any taxes or duties will still be due.

Re: I'm looking for U.S.A. and Germany mailing addresses

I have used myus.com. Works very well but its also expensive.
I used it as had vouchers on amazon.com and bought things I could not find.

By consolidating your packages the value goes up so then you pay the admin fees and VAT here. Not really sure its worth it.

Also had a couple of sites who refused to send to the adress as claimed these forwarders were often used as scam.

I use Shop & Ship. Not cheap but it gets the job done if an item is a must-have. They calculate import duties and ask you to pay by credit card/Paypal just before the item is delivered. Excellent tracking system.

Thanks for that one. I'll look into it. Were you able to resolve the claims of scam? If so, how? Did you ever have a problem with postal inspectors?

I do most of my shopping online, even for years before covid. If I can find something in Switzerland I'll buy it if the price is right or similar. But many times it's just not available or able to be shipped. I'm not rich but if I have to pay extra for something that I can't get any other way, I'll bite the bullet and do it.

No such problems. But of course any package could be opened and inspected. I only use it for stuff I can't find on this side of the Atlantic.

Re: I'm looking for U.S.A. and Germany mailing addresses

I've researched the topic, and I've found these:

https://www.mypaketshop.com/
https://mypaketshop-verzollung.com/
https://meineinkauf.ch/preise/

No experience though, since I'm not yet in CH. Those two (middle one is additional service) seemed most legit, but I didn't look for detailed reviews yet.

Yes as most of us. Just trying to tell you that you need to do your math and decide how much you are willing to pay for the product.

I did not manage to solve the address issue, shop just would not ship there.

You will pay substantially for shipping the package to CH and then again for import documents and VAT in CH. My experience was paying 80 USD for the shipping (3 amazon and 1 Uniqlo order - size of box roughly 50 cm on 3 sides, weight perhaps 8 kg) and then again 80 USD for the papers and VAT in CH.

So personally I will never do it again - nowadays I am hardly in the stuation that I cannot find a decent substitute here and have to ship from US, it is not the 80ies any longer

(I did it as mentioned because I had over 300 USD to spend on Amazon).

Thank you. One time my dad sent me Hanes underwear and I got a bill from the post. I called them and the problem was dad didn't mark it as a gift. I didn't have to pay the bill and now dad always marks it as a gift. (He doesn't send me underwear anymore.)

Thanks. It's not something I can/want to do very often. But sometimes I look on Amazon and see so much that I can't buy here or through Amazon Germany. A year ago I bought something that was CHF 1800 from Germany and I had to pay CHF300 customs on delivery. I wasn't made aware of that when I checked out, so luckily I had the cash on me when it arrived. I had to buy it from Germany because it is not available here and Germany is where the manufacturer is and all sales go through them. (I didn't buy it through Amazon. I bought it direct from the manufacturer.)

Thank you very much for that. I will definitely check those out and bookmark them like I did the others. It's all for future reference in case I do need to use a service like these.

BTW, when are you moving to Switzerland? I'm guessing sometime after the covid crisis is over and a majority have the jab and vaccination proof to travel - whenever that will be.

Thank you for that. I will bookmark it. Maybe Groupon would accept it as a mailing address? Do you know? I had thought about something like that, but Konstanz is over 2hrs away from me by train, plus another expense to add on top.

But still good to have it as a backup. Have you used it with Groupon?

And for future reference. what's the name of the cafe?

It's a wish/plan at the moment, first we need to secure a job or two, and that's tricky part since being from Croatia means it's important to find a company that will want to go through the hassle of getting us work permit with quota as a 'special snowflake of EU'.

But judging how interviews for my SO are piling up, I've decided to learn as much as I can as soon as I can, in case it all starts rolling soon, and not start research only after the contract is signed. Moving to Germany happened so fast and was very stressful and this time I want to mitigate as much of the stress as possible

So, his job is to find a job, my job is to dig up all nuances of immigration

And I'm also glad that I can share my findings and be useful to other people in the meantime

VAT is only 7.7 %, so CHF 140, what was the other 160 for, seems abnormal!

Plus, you saved CHF 300+ of German VAT.
