Covid quarantine in UK

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experience of quarantining when entering the UK. I am aware that anyone entering has to quarantine for 10 days (or 5 with early release). But curious as to how rigorously this is checked? Are people knocking on the door? Phoning?

Thanks - I realize this isn't a CH question but maybe some people here have been through this :-)

Re: Covid quarantine in UK

I did a month or so ago. When I filled in the form, and I downloaded the NHS COVID app. About 3 days after I got back I got an SMS asking me to confirm my mobile phone number. no other check was carried out. So I think they are also doing traces on mobile number which makes sense.

I did it late last year, not sure if it's changed since then.

We filled the forms, etc. and drove. At the border nobody checked the form (but it was submitted online so may be linked to passport no.). Nobody checked on us at all.

Re: Covid quarantine in UK

I did it two weeks ago, no checks at all during the quarantine period (I did the short version with test to release on day 5).

Regarding mobile phone tracing: I left the house twice during my quarantine: once to post the day 2 test from my nearest priority postbox (about 1 km from the house), and once to drive to my test to release appointment (about 10 km). I was quite surprised that I didn't get a follow-up call after either of those, despite having my phone with me and the Covid app active.

You have to ask why one would ask that question.

As for the app does it actually track you? I can't imagine that the UK would go to so much trouble and I would imagine a backlash about human rights etc if tracking were to take place.

Did it recently. No one checked the forms in Heathrow. No one checked whether we are observing the quarantine (which we were for 10 days). So far out of all the people I know that travelled (and there's quite a few) no one was ever checked.

I donít think they track you with the app. There is no requirement to use it when entering U.K. is there?

Re: Covid quarantine in UK

Did all of you do 10 day quarantine at home or in a hotel? I'm planning to do 10 day quarantine at an airport hotel and wondering if I could go get some lunch at a nearby takeaway.

Hotel has a restaurant for dinner.

Looking forward for my 10 day prison sentence

Same issues if you cannot go out to buy groceries. I'm a very bad cook, wouldn't survive more than 2 - 3 days with my own cooking

Online shopping & delivery!

I don't see why you couldn't have take away delivered. Will the hotel bring it up to your room and will they do room service for dinner, because you won't be allowed to leave your room.

I think breakfast and dinner could be consumed at hotel restaurant as you are only not supposed to leave premises and not room.

Yes, my idea is to order food for lunch. But the gov.uk website say that getting food is an exception.

Re: Covid quarantine in UK

Iím fairly sure when they say that, if you are staying in a hotel, they mean your room. Whatís the point if you go wandering around the hotel facilities infecting all the other guests and staff

Going to get sone food quickly and safely (mask, hand sanitiser etc.) is considered wondering around the facilities and infecting people? Specially when you go there with a negative covid test?

But if you read it as you have taken it, you could use the bar, pool, gym etc. Which obviously is not ok. There were cases in Australia hotel quarantine where guests passed on the virus just by opening their door to pick up their food tray - so yes you could pass it on by going to the restaurant.

They're a LOT stricter now at Heathrow vs even say 4-6 weeks ago. Strict checks on red list countries (for forced hotel stay), negative testing and for those not exempt proof that you've signed up to the day 2 and 8 testing plan or they funnel you to a set of desks to pay for the tests there and then. For 9 I didnt have my UK locator form checked once in comparison previously

For those who are saying they are exempt they're now asking for proof of employment in the other country such as a letter from employer to prove that you work overseas etc. - no one asked anything about that until maybe 4 weeks ago.

In terms of actual follow-ups I don't doubt that people aren't checked - I've done 3 separate quarantine stints here in Zurich (all registered with the appropriate canton form etc) and wasn't called/checked/contacted once.

You should try reading the rules

Quote:
You must not leave your room except in exceptional circumstances (such as an emergency) or with explicit permission from the security staff.

So no - you can't go wandering to the restaurant for meals or anything else for that matter. You're in your room 24x7.
