Familiengarten, what are they?

I have been living in Zürich for some months and I have seen many of these Familiengarten spread around the city. I am curious about what are these places. I have seen that they usually have many flags of another countries and "tiny houses". Would somebody here explain me a bit? I am just curious.

They're what in English are called 'allotments'. Basically a small patch of land that people can rent from the government or associations and use for growing personal stuff (whether ornamental plants or fruits and vegetables). People also use them for recreation when the weather is nice (sitting in the sun and barbecues). The tiny houses are on some scale between a garden shed and an actual tiny house (these are not used for living in).
