| | ammoniaque/Ammoniak not available in CH?
I am looking for a bottle of household ammonia for cleaning and de greasing purposes. Is is sold in Switzerland at all? So far none of the DIY shops or supermarkets I checked have it in stock. Does anyone know where to buy this in Switzerland?

Also best to look in a drogurie, not pharmacy, that is the place to find most basic chemical stuff.

The sale of such chemicals is controlled in Switzerland. You'll almost certainly have to go to a drogerie and depending on the canton you may have to leave you name and address with the shop.

The cleaning products sold under the Denner brand are quite strong. They come in purple atomizers. Not sure if they contain ammonia, but: (i) they clean the grease and calcite deposits in bathrooms with ease, and (ii) they irritate your respiratory tract enough to stop thinking about getting something stronger.

I know someone whose respiratory system reacted so quickly to the purple Big C. Bang that she almost died, within minutes, and made it through only thanks to emergency medical procedures. I know two others who experienced asthma attacks when that stuff was used around them. That range of products is banned from our home. | | | | | Oh shit, that sounds scary.
I use the purple grease remover for the kitchen and the calc remover for the bathroom. I was exaggerating a bit on the aggressiveness to our lungs. Only minor discomfort for me, all I use is gloves. I mean, the smoke from burning wood more irritating.
Anyway, if Denner products are problematic for some people, ammonia (nitric acid) is even worse for the respiratory system.

I just use a high pressure water cleaner (can be rented at any DIY store).

Yes I read the last thread just posted here and maybe such strong chemicals are not for me. A high pressure hose is a good idea thanks but also not really for me, its on a balcony for example!
It's just to clean off the green stains that occur on wood over time on one item.

I buy all this sort of thing in Carrefour just over the border in France..
They have a great selection of hydrochloric acid, ammonia, ethanol, acetone etc etc all for 1-2 euro per litre.
So if you are anywhere near the border..

Thank you all for your helpful and often entertaining responses!
I've figured out I can either order it professionally through my business at the same place we order denatured alcohols etc. However it's simply easier and a LOT cheaper (80%) to just buy it at the Intermarché in FR.

That with some lukewarm water should do the trick.

A lot of people use different products trying to get a result and it can be dangerous. Bleach + ammonia can release toxic gases.

Nail varnish remover is a known toxin, as is paint, scrubbing alcohol and your laundry powder/liquid. They just need treating with respect.
