Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

How British Expats ( with vaccination certs issued in EU country ) can enter the UK via the Channel Islands ( in this case Jersey ) where the EU Digital Vaccination certificate is already accepted to avoid self-isolation. Of course it means a 10 day sojourn or stopover in Jersey or Guernsey before completing the final leg of your journey to mainland Britain but on the PLUS side you can call it a 10 day holiday rather than a 10 day house arrest that would have awaited you if you didn't stop over in the Channel Islands first. The only exception ( at the moment ) being travellers or Expats from France.

Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

There was an article yesterday - which i can't find now - that suggested that due to the drop in France of the Beta variant that the UK govt will lift the ban on quarantine for UK residents.

However there also seems to be talk that for expats visiting relatives etc and who are double jabbed that the govt might lift restrictions for them too.

New list will take place around the 4 Aug ant the Dept of Transport has committed to holding formal reviews of the rules no later than 31st July

Yes makes no sense for the UK to be 'nationalistic' about their Covid vaccination certificates and passports &
only recognise those vaccination certificates issued in the UK, for those fully vaccinated EU citizens going to
the UK but denied any exemptions from the necessity to self-isolate, etc that are only enjoyed by those
who have been fully vaccinated with a UK NHS - Covid vaccination certificate as things stand from the 19th July.

Bugger! There's a funeral on the 30th which I'd definitely attend under normal circumstances.

Will Switzerland honour my NHS Covid Pass (it's an iPhone app)? https://www.gov.uk/guidance/nhs-covid-pass

The canton has extended the deadline for me to get an old-age medical exam to validate my cantonal driver licence but the prospect of spending ten days in quarantine (yes, they probably will give me consent to leave the flat to see my doctor, but no word about the optician; and no, I cannot go out to buy food (whether I could stock up ten days' worth at Migros in Geneva Airport is an open question).)

Depending where you are, Migros home delivery is currently available for the next day. You could put your order in before returning and choose which date you want it delivered.

You might have a chance. Nadhim Zahawi:

"In terms of UK nationals who have been vaccinated overseas, by the end of this month they will be able to talk to their GP, go through what vaccine they have had and then have it registered with the NHS as being vaccinated"

Incidentally. What a daft way to sort this. I'm a new migrant so still have a gp but many won't.

I think he's referring to a limited number of people who may have spent a few months outside of the uk, but have since returned. There was a priest interviewed on tv who'd been vaccinated whilst in Rome, but was now back in his UK parish.

Basically, it's not a system linked up with GPs outside of the UK, and anyway, it's shifting even more work onto GPs. I'm sure they'll thank him for that!

Yes I saw this too last week and just rolled my eyes
We're supposed to schedule a private GP appointment to discuss the fact that we've had a fully UK approved vaccine in Switzerland and ask that they manually update some NHS data base. There is nothing to discuss and no reason to trouble already over-worked GPs, this is a pure IT excercise of translating one validated, secure result to another system.

My apologies for asking a silly question…..
Does anybody knows when, approximately, the UK might accept foreign / EU / Swiss vaccination certificates?
Has it been announced in the news anywhere?

Apparently August 16 is set as date for revising regulations. Quarantine for UK residents returning from France and EU/Swiss Covid vaccinations could be recognised. Don’t hold your breath though…

Seeing as how the uk has no idea where anyone lives I'll just say "I'm returning" without specifying the time period.

The island of Jersey and the rest of the Channel Islands will gladly accept
your foreign foreign / EU / Swiss vaccination certificates to avoid any
need to self-isolate for those British Expats and other EU citizens who choose
to use it as a 10 day stopover/holiday stepping stone on their way to
the UK where the authorities will say there's no need to self-isolate ( so long as you still test negative upon your arrival onto mainland UK as the previous
10 days was spent in the Channel Islands.

Double-jabbed expats free to travel to UK under relaxed vaccine rules

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics...vaccine-rules/

Quote:
Double-jabbed expats free to travel to UK under relaxed vaccine rules

People vaccinated overseas will be able to visit loved ones without having to self-isolate or undergo expensive tests

Double-vaccinated expats are set to be free to travel to the UK, as the Government plans to recognise foreign jabs from August 1.
British families and couples have been separated by the current restriction on quarantine-free travel to and from amber list countries because the Government only recognises those people who have been vaccinated by the NHS.

However, ministers are preparing to change the rules to allow UK nationals who have been vaccinated overseas to register the jabs with their GP, clearing the way for them to return to the UK to visit family and friends without having to self-isolate for 10 days and pay for two PCR tests.

It could benefit some 300,000 expat British citizens living in just eight of the main EU countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Portugal, 700,000 Britons in the US and a further 150,000 in France, once it is removed from its current "amber-plus" status.

Ministers are also expected to open up quarantine-free travel "very soon" to foreign nationals in a reciprocal deal with 33 countries that have recognised the NHS app.

This means that potentially millions of EU and US residents could visit the UK to see relatives living here - and it would open up the multi-billion-pound inward visitor market, which has been reduced to a fraction of pre-pandemic levels.

The changes come amid growing speculation that France might be returned to amber within the next fortnight, ending the “amber-plus” requirement for all arrivals from the country, including fully jabbed Britons, to quarantine for 10 days.

It follows a sharp decline in the prevalence of the beta variant of the covid virus in France, from nine per cent of cases to 2.6 per cent, the prime reason for the restrictions being imposed last week.
Nadhim Zahawi, the vaccines minister, foreshadowed the move on foreign jabs in a little-noticed debate in the Commons last week.

He said: “By the end of this month, UK nationals who have been vaccinated overseas will be able to talk to their GP, go through what vaccine they have had and have it registered with the NHS that they have been vaccinated.
“The reasons for the conversation with the GP is to make sure that whatever vaccine they have had is approved in the UK. Ultimately there will be co-ordination between the WHO, ourselves, the European regulator and US regulator and other regulators around the world.

“Because we are working at speed at the moment, it is UK nationals and citizens who have had UK vaccinations who will be able to travel to amber list countries other than France and come back and not quarantine.

“We want to offer the same reciprocity as the 33 countries that recognise our app and that will also happen very soon.”
The 33 countries include Anguilla, Greece, Ireland, Barbados, Bulgaria, the Cayman Islands, Croatia, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Iceland, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Turkey, Germany and France.

Most EU countries are part of the bloc’s travel pass scheme, which records both tests and vaccinations. The picture in the US is, however, more complicated with individual US states having different approaches to vaccination with 50 different types of certificate, some solely on paper.
Joss Croft, chief executive of UKinbound, welcomed Mr Zahawi’s “incredibly encouraging” comments, but urged the Government to accelerate the process: ‘’We need action now, not just hollow words that reciprocity will hopefully be implemented soon.
Probably already been mentioned but does anyone know if Switzerland recognises the NHS App? This will mean reciprocity for recognition of the Swiss Covid Pass.

Expats won't have a UK GP, possibly illegal according to a poster who could not provide a link.

Yes I'm UK jabbed and have already travelled back to Switzerland multiple weekends under my NHS app only. I only need an antigen test to get INTO the UK each time (which you still need even if double jabbed plus a day 2 test) and nothing to get back to Switzerland they just check my app at UK side check-in to return.

I also got into a bar in Langestrasse the other week using my NHS app for vaccine cert proof which they scanned the QR code for entry.

I'm not going to go through the hassle of going to an NHS GP, what is of more interest is that the UK will recognise vaccine passes "very soon" for countries that recognise the NHS App Vaccine Pass. Assuming that this is indeed "very soon", it's probably the best hope many on this forum have to return to the UK in the near future.

The details of this seem very strange. Again, why not just say you accept the various Covid certificates from EU, US, Swiss etc???

How do you go about organising a GP to recognise your certificate? Surely they have enough on their plates without being inundated with emails and calls from expats about recognising their vaccinations?!??!

I am booked for the 8th August - hoping they will just waive me through at this point. I don't even have a GP in England but in Scotland and am trying to fly back to England to visit relatives. So frustrating all the unnecessary nonsense!
