Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

Hi Gaemsbock

I travelled to Heathrow on Thursday with a free antigen test result offered at the chemist. I asked for the passport number and name of test (provider) to be added to the document.

The test result document was checked at check-in. You need to pre-book your day 2 and day 8 test and include the reference number that this provider gives you on the locator form downloaded from the UK GOV website.

These documents will all be checked prior to boarding at the gate and your boarding pass will be stamped to confirm your documents are in order.

The prices of the day 2 and day 8 providers range dramatically. Our provider was less than £100. We also opted for day 5 test to release as an extra cost.

We flew at lunchtime and were through passport control in 15 minutes.
Since being in UK we have been contacted every other day by phone to check we are quarantining.

I hope this helps.

Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

@SwissFi, For the free antigen test, do you recall if the sensitivity/specificity of the test was given on the test certificate, or just the name of the provider?

I spoke to Medix Toujours this morning who confirmed that they provide a free antigen test for travel, together with free certificate in English. The name of the provider (Abbott) is printed on the certificate, but not the sensitivity/specificity values. Searching online I find that the Abbott test meets (exceeds) the UK requirements for sensitivity/specificity of the test, but I remain a bit concerned that it‘s not actually printed on the certificate.

Hi Gaemsbock

No the sensitivity was not shown on my certificate, only the name of the provider which was Abbott.

So the sensitivity/specificity wasn’t printed on your paperwork?
Nope the sensitivity has never ever been on any of my antigen tests (10+ from various places) and I've never had a query about it. They literally just skim for the negative result.

Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

I travelled in March and confirm that no-one checked the specificity of my Swiss test on the journey to the UK. I think a reputable test in Switzerland will meet that standard.

But beware also about the Swiss requirements for the pre-flight test you will do in the UK. My test was rejected because the certificate did not meet the standards (it didn't state the test type and EXACT time). So I had to leg it to the Heathrow test centre for an on-the-spot rapid test, and got checked in with minutes to spare. If I was travelling again I'd do everything at the airport and turn up hours early for this.

Swiss rules: https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home...tml#1558231594

1. Boarding control: The airlines systematically check your negative coronavirus test result prior to boarding. The results of the following tests are permissible for this control:

A PCR test carried out within the last 72 hours
A rapid antigen test carried out within the last 24 hours

Requirements for the test result on boarding

The document with the negative test result (in digital or paper form) must contain the following information:

Last name, first name and date of birth of the person tested
Date and time sample was taken
Type of test
Test result

But this may all be working better than it did back in March.

Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

Obviously since the BAG announcement yesterday this should now all be a bit easier if you're fully vaccinated (and waited the 2 weeks after 2nd jab) but I've just had a mail from Swiss reminding me I need a PCR test on Sunday so could be a few days before they sort the finer details.

Does anyone know if the antigen test is valid upon arrival into the UK or does it need to be a PCR test?

Antigen test is acceptable, you need to have proof of a 2/8 day PCR test is booked, even if you are returning before that time. In clinic tests with Biograd can be refunded without issue if cancelled 24 hours before the test.

Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

I am travelling from GVA to LHR on 29th Jun, booked antigen test, day 2 and day 8 tests in UK and filled passenger locator form. When I come back to Switzerland do I need antigen / boarding test and quarantine ? I am fully vaccinated but will be less than 2 weeks since 2nd jab, I don't see this 2 weeks requirement on bag.admin.ch, any thoughts ?

Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

Did my usual weekend UK visit this weekend. I'd taken a PCR Friday AM just in case but yesterday just showed my UK NHS App vaccination certificate and QR code at the Swiss gate and was checked in fine.

The guy actually said 'Ah Swiss resident - do you have your Covid test or proof of Covid vaccination?' this time. Passed him my phone he scrolled and checked the dates were after the 14 days of 2nd Jab (AZ for me) and off I went.

Great to have one less piece of paperwork to sort out every week

Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

I am considering driving from Switzerland to UK via France next week. I will return a couple of weeks later using the reverse route. I would stop in France on the way there, but would likely transit straight through France on the way back. I am fully vaccinated (14 days post second jab, done in Switzerland).

UK is on France's amber list currently. I notice that there is pressure around the EU for countries to start restricting access to travelers from UK, due to the delta variant.

If France adds UK to it's red list, would this jepordise my plans on my return?

Thanks! There is quite alot of information floating around online.

Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

seems switzerland (amber list) will soon be off the quarantine list for UK.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...als-in-england

"No quarantine’ for vaccinated amber list arrivals in England
Ministers are likely to announce that vaccinated people travelling to England from amber list countries will no longer have to quarantine from later this month, in a significant boost for the travel industry, it is understood.

A date of 19 July to change the rules is among options that will be considered by the Covid operations committee, chaired by the Cabinet Office minister, Michael Gove, which is due to meet on Thursday morning."

However, as I understand it travellers returning to CH still need to quarantine even with Covid certificate, or have I missed something. BAG seems to add a new arrivals flow chart daily.

Now on day 3 of my UK quarantine, 2 phone-calls checking I am behaving, looking forward to day 5 TTR

Thanks, my error, I was checking for my son at same time (who missed appt for 2nd having caught covid before leaving UK)

For me the Covid Certificate has made recent travels so much less hassle/inconvenience

On Thursday afternoon there should be an announcement from the British government exempting vaccinated travellers from Amber list countries (i.e. Switzerland) from quarantine. You will just need a PCR before departure and on arrival.

Absolutely livid, that U.K. scrapping quarantine for amber list, applies only to U.K. residents vaccinated in U.K. it seems!

Seriously WTF?!?
This is pure jingoistic, Brexit inspired nonsense. Why the hell should the rest of Europe accept British visitors or their 'vaccine' certificates if that same courtesy is not extended? This is anti science and anti common sense which seems to be a hallmark of Johnson's government.

Quote:
Shapps said travellers should still expect delays and disruption and that “travel will not be the same as it was”, warning that checks at the border would mean longer waits.

He said the changes would “prioritise those vaccinated in the United Kingdom”, adding: “We want to welcome international visitors back to the UK and are working to extend our approach to vaccinated passengers from important markets and holiday destinations later this summer, such as the United States and the EU.”
