It's one of the areas where the UK is actually quite competent!
Not really

It might be okay in London, but outside its pretty much a gamble

Mate you dont need to tell me about "pretty efficient" online delivery in the UK.

Ocado Tesco Asda Waitrose didnt have a single delivery slot during 3 weeks and 2hrs online waiting queue even to get to a message that they dont have a single delivery slot in 3 weeks.
I've lived in Inner SW, Inner E, and outer SE London, always got online delivery for years and never experienced that. Maybe in the pandemic but certainly not before.

Ok in every place I've lived (admittedly all reasonably urban). Only issue I've had is no Ocado in the north east.

I am not and never will be your mate.

I don’t know where you were but I’ve never had a problem and neither have any of my family.
There was a bit if a wait at the beginning of the first lockdown last March April time but other than that it’s been pretty good.

This is for Yorkshire, Bristol, Hertfordshire and Brighton, I have no idea about other areas.

Same in and around Oxford, apart from the original panic no-one in my family's had much trouble getting a delivery slot for groceries from any of the supermarkets.

My brother's handicapped and lives in a small village in the Oxfordshire countryside. A quick phone-call to his local Co-op last March had one of the staff popping round to personally deliver his order.

These days you could manage to survive for the required number of days on takeaways; would be pretty hard to find somewhere in the UK that you couldn't get a takeaway or three delivered.

Just do a massive shop the moment you touch down in the UK. You should be able to last 5 days until you're eligible for early release.

P.S I am aware that the rules state you must go directly from the airport to your quarantine address, but I am simply applying some time-honored common sense i.e. as a traveler you will be in possession of a negative COVID test and possibly even be vaccinated so I have no qualms about going to a supermarket in that window of opportunity (Nb the rules do actually state that you can use public transport to reach your quarantine spot).

So frustrating that even if you transit France from Switzerland you have to quarantine but fine in the UK if you want to join the hundred of thousands at the British GP, Wembley, British open golf etc ........
I would really appreciate some help. I want to travel to the UK by road but obviously now won‘t transit through France. Which ferry (from Belgium I presume) would be easiest given that I shall head to the West Country?

Has anyone undertaken this already?

I got symphony invites to perform in the UK, they know that I am not there. Now with this mess of the entry rules, it is frustrating.

I don‘t think it makes any difference which country you transit through - it‘s test cert + personal locator form + quarantine + we don‘t give a stuff about any vaccinations but NHS ones done in the UK.

https://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/travel...covid-19/#cafo

I guess ferries from Holland/Begium websites will have the same info.

I‘ve given up all hope of seeing England again…

I think you’d have to take a ferry from the Netherlands. Hook of Holland would probably be your best option.

In my case it'd be quite a lengthy trip on public transport between Heathrow and Northumberland 😂

It makes no difference for us whether we come in from Zurich or Paris as long we were not vaccinated in the UK. We will need to quarantine for 10 days either way.

The impact will be felt most acutely by people who've received their vaccines in the UK, if they transit through France they are not exempt from Quarantine as they would be if they came from Germany, Switzerland etc....

Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

OK here is a conundrum. I have a flight back to LHR from GVA on Saturday 24 July. I was last in France on 15 July when I travelled to Switzerland. If I interpret the rules correctly, I need to therefore self-isloate in the UK for 10 days (we are only staying there for 8 days).

Alternatively, do I only need to self-isolate for the remainder of the 10 days, i.e. 1 day. I do have the option of moving the flight by one day, but that is super pricey.

Any ideas anyone?

As above, you need to quarantine in the UK for 10 days* regardless of having visited France since both Switzerland and France are on the amber list. See here for details.

* you could do a test to release earlier on day 5 if you choose

UPDATE - I actually telephoned the Department for Transport and they advised me I would have to self-isolate for the full 10 days (or as above on test-to-release).

But at least i get to stay in Switzerland

Rumour has it that the illegal immigrants have started digging a new Channel Tunnel to circumvent Preti Patels
'ring of steel' in the English Channel.
No doubt they would welcome anyone who care's to join them with pick axe and shovel.

Re: May 2021 Travel To UK Requirements Covid

Thanks for the answers and help. Here‘s me thinking I can suddenly just go on a whim without really doing any research previously, just relying on the fact that by now things might have changed. I feel really sorry for those who are prevented from going back. Something isn’t right here, how long does this go on?

Personally,I have meeting in the UK that zoom or whatever won’t cover, I would also like to see family too but can’t imagine what the situation is like for some as we had holidays there last year and caught up with most family. So frustrating.

I’d be happy to take anyone (1 person) who’s stuck if it would be easier by car, I would go via M25 which covers quite good connections. Just have to wait until we can in a civilised way I suppose.

as stated per “the rules” public transport is allowed to travel to quarantine location - in my case the Picc to KingsX onward to Cambridge. Only a fool wearing mask with negative PCR test from day before would skip the opportunity to nip into Little Waitrose at Kings X in order to gather rations, bottle or 2 and free Sunday newspaper. Between football and Delta there was actually plenty of other news/not-so-new to keep me occupied the first 48 hrs
