Re: Buying from Galaxus - extra charge?

I like the Galaxus side bar that shows the real-time purchases! Imagine the Amazon one.

I use galaxus a lot .. Well maybe 3 - 4 times per month. I've never been charged for delivery so maybe as somebody said it's disposal charge or something ..

I've even ordered a double bed from there and it was free delivery. It was a flat pack metal frame but was ~50kg, delivered by the normal post lady.. I had to lift out of her van.
All electronics sold in CH pay a tax that goes to the cooperative that recycles them. The tax for a 65" TV is 18 CHF. https://www.swico.ch/en/recycling/ba...riffs/#tariffs

Have a friend with a car?
TVs are super light today, you should have no trouble carrying it yourself + 1.
Unfortunately no... I'm brand new to the city and I'm on my own. I would've been willing to even hire a car for a few hours (like a Mobility one) but I'm still a Norman No Mates who wouldn't be able to carry it in by myself

There goes my theory that the expensive delivery was due to weight!

Galaxus can be a confusing website!

Depending on what floor you live on, that delivery and installation price can be so worth it. We had a gas grill delivered as a gift, curbside only—the guy refused to help me bring it up three flights of stairs. Thankfully we had a garage to put it in while I waited for my husband to come home. We had to bring it up in pieces because it was just too heavy.
That's really rough. I was wondering how committed they are to the curb-side concept!

For a newbie having someone install (drilling into walls?) and set up something so it works from day 1 125f is a bargain.

For an experienced EFer it’s a rip-off.
Exactly this - for me this is primarily a convenience charge.

Quote:
View Post
OP: I just put the same TV in my cart (the basic price is now higher) and delivery was free but I could pay CHF 89 to have it delivered to place of installation and another CHF 89 to have a wall bracket fitted.
Well that's a lesson learned for me! It's being delivered to central Basel so I wouldn't have expected location to be a factor.

Oh well, live and learn!! Thanks for the recommendations to mediamarkt and toppreis too, Notallthere and poot

Totally!

We had a digital piano delivered. The price was just delivery. There was an additional price for installation inc. delivery to place of installation.

The box was off the van and on a roller and the guy was just going to drop it on the pavement. As it was already on the roller, I asked whether I could push it up our path to the front door.

The guy went almost red with rage. He did help me move it but totally unwillingly muttering all the time about how we only paid for delivery.

We're talking thirty additional seconds of his time and no extra lifting.

He was the owner of the shop where we bought it - we were trying to support local businesses by buying from him.

Luckily he calmed down. He was within ten seconds of me telling him to take his piano back with him and me demanding a refund.

So, yes. They mean what they say.

If you think I'm being unfair or unjust then it works both ways.
There have been plenty of times when I've hopped up on to the elevating platform and into the back of a lorry to help a delivery driver move a few boxes to get to my delivery or helped them with a heavy load - and I've never, ever sent a bill for my efforts!

But doesn't mean they add it to the bill though, right? I've never paid anything additional other than credit card surcharge.

They have nothing to gain by hiding the cost as they forward the additional charge. And IIRC the total shown is binding.

So, probably a real bug and worth reporting.
Unfortunately plenty of sites where they show you the total and when you click to pay the amount changes.

I don't think one delivery guy should need to let you off because you've helped other delivery guys in the past but I know what you mean.
If it's multi-drop delivery then the drivers are often on a very tight schedule so imagine if at every stop the receiver says "oh could you 'just' wheel it up to my front door?" At least have a can of coke or bottle of water for them if not a small tip.

I respect that. The point in this case though was that it was a small business owner and the actual owner was doing the delivery. If you want repeat business, this is not the way to do it.

For the multi-delivery drivers, I make it as easy and as fast as possible and one who regularly deliverers pet supplies knows he can just chuck the stuff around the corner and not even bother to ring the door bell and wait for an answer.

There's an obligation to charge the anticipated recycling cost to the customer. However, it seems there's no obligation to tell the customer about it

This is a translation of the Swiss law in French. Importers/sellers of these type of devices must charge the customer and redirect this money to the recycling organizations:

Quote:
The following are deemed to be devices within the meaning of this ordinance:

at. devices that are part of entertainment electronics;
b. devices relating to office automation and information and communication techniques;
vs. household appliances;
d.8 lighting fixtures;
e.9 light sources (except incandescent lamps);
f. tools (except large fixed industrial tools);
g. leisure and sports equipment and toys;

that run on electrical energy

Actually, there is no obligation to "charge the anticipated recycling cost". Instead there is an obligation to take back electronic goods and recycle them and it is for the companies to decide on whether they absorb or pass on the costs. Instead of each company focusing on its own products, a bunch of them have gotten together (https://www.erecycling.ch/) and agreed on a list price for recycling goods, which then gets passed on the recyclers. Some retailers break out this amount to show that the purchaser is also paying for the recycling service, however, since the seller is required to show to the buyer the actual price he will pay with all costs, etc. included (https://www.fedlex.admin.ch/eli/cc/1..._2081/de#art_4) there is no duty to break it out. Moreover, it would be unlawful to show a price and state that the recycling fee would be on top.

Thanks for clarifying the whole thing!

Now that we know that companies are free to choose who pays the recycling cost, is the an electronics seller in CH that absorbs the costs?

But at checkout it said it wasn't eligible for free delivery (I assume it was a weight issue?) - and then the first level delivery was only curb-side. Out of the options it gave me, this one was the cheapest.
I had a couple of TVs from Galaxus with free delivery. The postperson knew what it was

If I have time when you need it, I could lend you a hand and the trunk of my car.
And definitely won't charge you 125CHF.

PM me if interested.

In a rather odd turn of events... the delivery status says it was delivered and signed for at 08:30 this morning.

Unless I've really lost the plot, that absolutely did NOT happen

I'm hoping that 125 'delivery and installation fee' has not just gone down the drain

Re: Buying from Galaxus - extra charge?

All is well that ends well, I now have my lovely new tv

I actually ended up going into the Galaxus store to ask the customer service person what the “it’s been delivered” message was all about. Turns out that was the confirmation that Galaxus had delivered the television to the delivery company. He said they would then contact me to arrange delivery - which didn’t actually happen, they simply arrived at 7:30 the next morning, but that’s okay.

Just another learning curve in how they do things in Switzerland!

Crazy. I recently ordered a new refrigerator and the delivery man insisted on wheeling into a convenient spot in our house. No extra charge. Very friendly as well - as were the two other members of the company I talked with. kaufsignal.ch
