I am happily using big washing machines that are in our washing room. They are up to 8 kg of laundry. I guess you are not living in house with such a system:
1. ask a friend who is
2. find a laundromat
3. use one of the many laundry service that is available in the Switzerland

I know that the large Coop store near us (in Volketswil) offers a laundry service that can wash large duvets, etc. It's located at the service desk. But I think that any laundry service / dry cleaner probably does the same. I suspect that's going to be much more expensive than taking it to a laundromat and washing it yourself in one of their machines, though. If you do a Google search for "Laundromat Zurich" or "Waschhuas Zurich" (for example) you will find laundromats in that area.

There's a laundromat not far from where I live with big machines but it would be cheaper to buy a new duvet. I believe there are self-service standalone washers just across the border in France but no idea of the price. I also have no idea where you live, despite the name.

Itís in Vaud near Vevey I believe so France might be an option for him although I suspect Evian is his nearest french town and may require a boat trip to get there.

I just wash mine in my regular washing machine.

I use the normal machine, but have to be careful to either put them in alone, or with only a few extra light things, as the weight is considerable (and I've known machines not to spin, if the weight is substantial).

Re: Where do you wash large stuff like blanket ect. ?

I'm lucky enough to have an 8kg washing machine and an 8kg tumble dryer in my apartment, also a large communal drying room in the cellar (I think apartments with their own washers and dryers are become more common in Basel because it's what ex-pats prefer).

However most local dry cleaners I walk past appear to offer laundry services as well so it might be an idea to see what's in your area.

Re: Where do you wash large stuff like blanket ect. ?

Even my 10kg machine would not fit my 220x240 duvets, they had to be professionally cleaned... so every year I had to pay many times the price of the duvets themselves.

Which is madness, economically and environmentally.

So now when a duvet needs washed I cut it up into washable quarters for use in the dog beds. When my stash of duvets is gone I won't replace them - it'll be back to bed spreads and blankets for me.

But for the OP: Yes, most dry cleaners will also have large washing machines that can do heavy blankets and double duvets. You just have to be prepared for sticker shock.

I would say yes and no. In Schickimicki buildings and newly renovated flats, and business rentals, they're becoming more and common, as the landlords can charge such a ginormous premium for them in comparison to their actual value.

I haven't come across 1 instance of them being put into flats outside of those 2 cases, except for instances where people have took it upon themselves to pay for them and install them in their flats.
