Coming back to Switzerland - requirements for tourists

Weird as it may seem, if you go away from Switzerland via plane for a few days and come back, you MUST fill in a PLF (Passenger Locator Form)

Why this should be, as residents, so they' know where we live, I've no idea.

Online check for all you need + checks to the form: here - https://travelcheck.admin.ch/home

Re: Coming back to Switzerland - requirements for tourists

Afaik this has been the case for any incoming flights for a longer time.

Swiss, at some destinations, will not issue a boarding card (online check in) so you need to go to the check in desk to get that..

Only had that checked twice in the last months when arriving in ZRH

It was not required on 3 July 2021 for vaccinated passengers, I was asked for one but pointed out it was not a requirement. (I had one just in case)

For travel now, it seems an online one is required, which I did but never took the flight.

Re: Coming back to Switzerland - requirements for tourists

Have had to complete that several times, despite having had my second vaccination mid May. Flying every second week.

For incoming flights to DE it is no longer required when you are fully vacced. Can‘t say anything about other countries, haven‘t been able to fly back home for a longer time

The Swiss government website was updated around 5 July requiring contact info for vaccinated arriving by air. If your are transiting they don't require an address.

Re: Coming back to Switzerland - requirements for tourists

The requirement for the passenger locator form has been in place for a longer time, to enter Switzerland

Edit: at least since February 2021

I had a print out from the government site, vaccinated Air passengers did not need one on 3 July, when I checked the site on 5th July it had been updated & they did. I will see if I can find the old print out, although I think I have thrown it away.

Clearly there was not an exemption for vaccinated passengers in February 2021 as there were very few. I believe the exemption ended on 5th July

Re: Coming back to Switzerland - requirements for tourists

From the BAG website it has been clear that entry by plane requires the form, regardless of the vaccination status

I agree, however the site was updated on or around 5 July.
I was exempted on 3rd July, I showed the exemption, they checked & accepted.

The paper I have states Entry from Italy, Malta, San Marino, Vatican the update is shown as 12.07.21
The previous version did not have (aeroplane Yes) in brackets for vaccinated passengers. It's no longer on the website at all, just what you have linked. Still looking for the earlier version

At the time Malta was the only Green country in the EU, it's now Red with more than 100 times increase in daily cases.

Strange as I check those regulations very regularly and never saw anything that vacced people can enter CH by plane without that form. Other transport yes.

This is the page, you can see it was updated on 6 July effective 7 July.

(aeroplane Yes) was the change, you could also fill in a paper form, now online only

Right, but the original post was about entering by plane and that requirement to have the locator form has been in place for months.

It's been a requirement for at least 6 months as I've travelled constantly to/from UK. It was originally paper and you had to complete it on the plane each time, but has been online for some months now and they only usually ask on the plane now if anyone hasn't done one and hand them a form if they missed it.

Swiss check-in staff didn't check mine last weekend but have every other flight previously.

Re: Coming back to Switzerland - requirements for tourists

I had the FOPH form for my trip back to CH from Manchester via Frankfurt on Sunday.

It was checked in Manchester at check in, along with UK vaccination certificate, PCR test result, UK passport and Swiss permit.

At Frankfurt the border control just wanted to see my passport and vaccination certificate.

There were no checks at the gate in Frankfurt, and on arrival in Zurich you basically walk off the plane into the arrivals hall without any checks at all.

Because it's done electronically the Swiss authorities know who you are and when you plan to arrive. But they are relying on the UK check in staff to remember to be vigilant. There's certainly no scanning of QR codes going on.

Kind regards

Ian

That's been the approach from UK back to Zurich pretty much for at least the last 6 months. They don't issue a boarding pass electronically and the Swiss check-in staff check all your paperwork at the check-in desk and then issue the boarding pass once checked.

Unlike flying from Zurich to the UK where weirdly it's all checked at the departure gate in Zurich so you have delayed flights if they run late with the paperwork checks (I never check-in luggage when I travel home so I can't confirm if they check at the desk too).

Can confirm that in Germany they check it at the desk check in, you only get a confirmation when you check in online, boarding pass at the gate.

And yes, in ZRH they tend to start checking the documents rather late, so lately had lots of delays. You can go to the check in desk though and get your papers checked and get a paper document to avoid that long line at the gate.
