Used Audio Shops - Geneva area

I noticed that most of the other threads are relatively old, and more Zurich focused in general.
Does anyone know of any good used audio equipment shops in the Geneva to Lausanne area? Nearby France is also okay. In particular I'll be looking for amps and speakers.
I'm not really looking for online shops for this... unless they have really good deals... I'd prefer a place that I can go in and look and listen. Thanks!

Re: Used Audio Shops - Geneva area

The only place I've seen 'used' stuff like this is pawn type shops.. There are quite a few around, eg cash converters ..
I used to take a wander around for something to do at lunchtimes when I worked nearby.

However they are not setup for trying them out and they are a lot more expensive than buying on the regular used ,market such as Ricardo or FB marketplace.

I've never seen a shop dedicated to used audio equipment.. but hey, I wasn't looking.

Good to know. Are those cash converter places legit? I've seen them before, and they look a bit dodgy (at least the ones that I'd seen).

I'd say they are legit as in perfectly legal ..

What you might find there though is a lottery .. Think everything from old golf clubs to prams to lawnmowers .. Like a charity shop.

There are a growing number of higher end versions springing up though.. One in Nyon for example .

I've no experience other than browsing for that hidden gem but they are out there.

Re: Used Audio Shops - Geneva area

You could try a search "vintage audio geneva"
I saw a shop in old part of Biel with the windows stacked with audio equipment and a similar search turned it up. If you are visiting such "bricks and mortar" shops, beware of "laid back" opening times.

Check out Nyon Bar Disques, they can probably give you some hints as they deal with Vinyls.

BTW, MRS how is your French?

Re: Used Audio Shops - Geneva area

The three major websites that I would recommend for items like this would be anibis.ch (like Craigslist) and Facebook marketplace in the Swiss French area. In the Swiss German area it would be ricardo.ch (auction and fixed price sales). Tutti.ch is also a smaller player in the German speaking area.

I have not had any problems with EN on Ricardo (asking questions etc.). FR is often needed though for Anibis and FaceBook. Google translate is normally good enough if you do not speak FR.

Assuming you find something on any of the sites, most people offer the option of shipping via the Post office if they are too far away for you. Up to 2kg it is CHF 7.- and from 2kg up to 10kg it will be 9.70. People are used to buying "sight unseen" in CH so a lot of stuff is shipped.

Payment is often done via a CH system of payments (from your mobile phone) that is called TWINT. It needs a mobile phone number and the transfer is instantaneous. Some people will accept bank transfers using their IBAN number. This gives a lag of 24-48 hours.

Appreciated!

My French? Well.... my Japanese is good!

In high school I studied a bit of French... under a Cuban teacher and then one from Iraq... my pronunciation is terrible, and I never had the opportunity to use it really. That said, I learned Japanese through immersion and can speak it fairly well, and I can read a bit.

My assumption is that I'll hopefully get a few useful and polite phrases down at first with my big dumb grin... and eventually I'll pick up some more. It'll be a process. I'm thankful that I can read a little and I'm sure my kid will pass me within a month or so.

Re: Used Audio Shops - Geneva area

Im N Geneva you could survive with English, a little more difficult in Vaud. You probably need to think about some lessons.
