I would have left it open. Marton does tend to overdo with his Anti Trump and Biden can do no wrong web links. Still, I think he should be allowed to on one single Trump thread

For the record, I think Biden is a useless president
Actually, I am disappointed with Biden - he started well but is now sinking into the mire.

Why does it have to be one or the other? This forum was not started by The local. If someone does not want to discuss such stuff then why visit the section clearly labelled "International affairs/politics"
Perhaps potential emotional damage to folk with a delicate nature could be avoided with a sticky/warning? At the very least a disclaimer in that direction should keep The Local out of trouble…

No, actually - that same mod closed a Trump thread as it was getting mainly anti-Trump posts. Isn't that Cancel Culture too?

As there is a remote possibility that Trump could stand again and get re-elected, and as U.S. foreign policy can have an overbearing effect on the rest of the world - I don't think a Trump thread is out of place on this forum.

I don't know LtSoftDrink, careful what you wish for....the delicate nature of pro-Trump camp is kind of notorious here.
Btw, weren't you too against a new Trump thread? Or "A shooting just happened...." (never understood the "necessity" of that one either) I was under the impression you were not impressed. But hey ho, double standards and all.

Why not a new Biden thread? It looks like the forum dwellers are bored.
Common, you can do it.

I was literally banned yesterday because one or more of you went crying to the moderators. There is no further proof needed that I was right.

Enjoy it while you can, as the old adage goes, be careful what you wish for...
I've no idea why you were banned. I do know that you were persistently trying to derail a thread and seemed to be spoiling for a fight for some reason.

Quote:

You were banned for 24 hours. Under the regime you keep raving about, I was banned for two weeks for complaining about a mod's selective deleting of posts.

It used to be a case before that, that if a thread went off-topic, but was still worth pursing, all the posts got moved to the applicable old or new thread and not just a select few on the whim of a moderator with pretty known biased views.
This.

Persistent? Eventually? Your first post is from 24 Sept, so either you are indeed "reborn" or you have witnessed zilch on this forum and the mod debate and have no idea what you are talking about.
He knows. Trust me. Or not, your call. I'm not new either.

I don't know why you were banned, I certainly never called for it, and I believe I said you shouldn't have been banned at the time. I've never called for anyone to be banned.

I didn't even know that Moderator either tbh, he just showed up out of the blue rather like the two we have now. Having been absent for so long he/she probably shouldn't have stayed in the role.

Ultimately we're talking about different issues. Yours was with a moderator, mine has more to do with the Cancel Culture we're seeing entering into every facet of life these days. Instead of discussing points people rather go crying to whoever in order to get something deleted.
You've not been around all that long, relatively speaking. As was pointed out somewhere else, an active mod doesn't necessarily mean a visible mod.

What cancel culture? You seem determined to pick fights and mostly post provocative stuff that is clearly at odds with the rules stated. I've had a fair amount of my posts deleted.

I recently got a two week and a month ban from the same moderator just because he doesn't like me. No warning. No right of reply. Then quite a lot of on-forum character bashing that I couldn't respond to. Lovely. That is cancelling someone. Then putting the boot in. I've seen no evidence of that here.

Why are you determined that "someone " got you banned? Only for a day, might I add.

Nothing to do with delicacy, or snowflakes (every one unique btw) or wokeness, which is used as a pejorative when it really only means being acutely aware of oppressive bias etc etc...

Folk just don't want to engage with certain viewpoints that pretty much all of the rest of decent humane society would also deem beyond the pale.

In my opinion.

Please help me come to another term than oxymoron when anything Trump is mentioned in the same sentence with “delicate” - also (in case you’re into debate) why you added “double standards” after you edited you original post – hey-ho and all that….

I believe the point of that thread was to make people aware (especially the pro-gun lobby) just the sheer number of shootings (especially mass shootings) in the U.S. - compared with other countries with stricter gun controls.

I think it came out of a discussion on gun controls in Switzerland which some people seemed to think were the same as the U.S. because of the number of army-issue guns here.

If I remember rightly, that thread was the merge of several US shooting threads, which seemed to be spawning at quite a rate. It made sense to put them all in one thread as the same points were being made in each new thread.

Outside of the woke world, there are plenty of different opinions, some more popular than others.

It's a real shame that people like you see themselves as the arbiters of what is beyond the pale and what is not.

But that's just it. You use "woke" world when actually it's just the world. Must scare the shite out of some of the dinosaurs.

It's a real shame that some folk can't help but try and make things personal. I'd rather be someone who stands up for what I believe than to be cowed by folk who just shout louder and nastier.

Have yourself a wonderful day. And welcome back.

Pretty obvious you lack enough reflection to detect any trace of Selbstüberhöhung (overestimation of self-esteem? – German is better sometimes) in your wish to avoid the least contact with the underbelly of humanity.
I suppose I could try with history: Romans vs. barbarians. Recent politics: Hillary Clinton’s “deplorables”. Perhaps Miss Piggy said it best, “rectitudinous, moi?”

"Barbarians" is just recycling ancient propaganda, they were Germanic tribes not known for barbaric practices like murdering Christians by utilising wild animals.

You could be right and you could be wrong. Perhaps with Germanic background, the “barbarians” were generally efficient and were able to murder whoever was in their way with less drama/wild animals all by themselves?

Point is, the Romans got it in the neck by people they regarded “beyond the pale
