An international "house of the year" award goes to Zurich

The house in Wipkingen is "a provocation with its unfinished looks" and has "fluid forms"...

Maybe its me, but I find it not that provocative... just not exactly pretty.

I found it exactly as it says, and better than 70% of Swiss houses. But still not something I would create.

Ugly and cold. That cement wall in the bedroom looks unfinished and slightly damp. That place must echo horribly when a pin is dropped.

The view is phenonomal but that has nothing to do with the building of the house. This is one of those cases where modern is being celebrated because it's different, but all I see is an unfinished home.

Yikes.

Clearly what I want/need/like/would consider even remotely livable in a home is at odds with the current Swiss aesthetic.

But I feel sorry for anybody with OCD living nearby. Just seeing the photo of the house with extra mortar between the bricks gives me the shivers.

I sent this photo to a friend from Zurich, and she replied with: "is it in front of that disgusating Altersheim?"
Altersheim is the violet building behind the house. i just wanted to say, people were already suffering there

I agree with one of the comments in 20 Minuten:
Was soll DAS sein ? Das schönste Haus ? Hiiiiiiiilllllllfe 😳
Oh, well, I suppose the architect got some sort of kick out of forcing this création on the world. Sigh.

Nothing feels warm and cozy like unfinished concrete

I can't believe people would want to live there, let alone it being named the prettiest house of the year!

It looks like it would house machine gun turrets, or maybe be a control building at an alpine tunnel entrance.

Clearly went to the same university as the one who did my staircase. I'm reasonably flexible when it comes to architectural design, having a soft spot for Brutalism and all, but this is just "Je-m'en-foutisme".

Agree. It has a certain Flaktower aesthetic… even though even those are a little easier on the eye…
