Can't wait for Christmas!

Anyone else looking forward to Christmas? After crappy last two years for multiple reasons, plus the pandemic on top, I am really looking forward to lights, chestnuts, raclette etc.

Most of all, time with the people I love and my goats. I am going to put the Christmas lights on tomorrow, just to drag the festive period.

Don't take life and good health for granted, it can all change in one day. Ta-ta.

Re: Can't wait for Christmas!

I AM SO EXCITED FOR CHRISTMAS

Admittedly this isn't pandemic-related - I get excited about Christmas every year.

This year is particularly special because I am going to have a real Christmas tree for the first time in my life.

Re: Can't wait for Christmas!

Big Time!!!

I love decorating for Christmas, just a pain when its time to take it all down again &
and then there is the untangeling of the light chains..

BUT

The smell of freshly baked ginger bread, a nice warm glühwein at the christmas market..
And this year my parents will be here!!!

Re: Can't wait for Christmas!

Me too! Just ordered my new Christmas tree decorations today (daughter took all of our previous ones with her when she moved out of home last year). Actually used to hate Christmas when it meant me rushing to get everything done as a single Mom when I could finally get out of the office.

But the last two years have been really “hygge” and lovely - and realized lately that my daughter has always really loved our Christmases together. It also helps get through the long, dark winters here.

Just another day really. Different lunch and we give each other pressies, but that's it. Will be on my PC all day same as usual.

Re: Can't wait for Christmas!

I was in Dublin last weekend. Was amazed to see the big department store, Brown Thomas with a huge decoration section and all sorts of treats and wine.

I have a very cynical view of Christmas, however. My mom died right after Christmas, and some years later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer a few days before Christmas and had surgery a few days after. Other Years are tied to the failing health of our fathers. So it is hard to disentangle the unpleasantness from the holiday….and it‘s always been too full of people. Christmas in the US was always way too busy.

On the other hand as an adult, I’ve learned to appreciate Christmas here…quiet, with good food and people I care about. I also have a very funky tree with fiber optic leds.

I'll be happy if OH doesn't give me a toilet (2019) or a vacuum (2020). If he tries that again, well...

Well, it sounds like you have the perfect, down-to-earth relationship (many would dream of that, as well as a functioning toilet and Hoover) - congratulations!

If I'd fondled my vacuum like that, there'd be trouble.

I’ll have you know I’ve ordered a new lightweight, cordless Dyson Hoover with 60m of accu and laser sensors that get every grain of dust for my “Christmas present to myself” this year, and am so very excited about it - no more plugging-in and dragging this monster behind me!

Well, needed to do something now that the wonderful lady that usually cleans my apartment also retires next month

Wouldn't worry me, more often than not hubby gets me something I neither need nor want despite me telling him every year that the only thing I want is my Knie calendar. Calendar's enough for me, but no, always something else that gets put away somewhere never to be used and just gather dust.

Maybe you should drop him some hints for gift ideas of things that you really do want.

For example, I taped a huge photo of a the new dining room table that I really want on my husband's computer screen with the word "WANT" written on it. I also sent him a link to it via email.

Nothing like dropping those subtle hints.

And if that doesn't work, I'm afraid I will have to resort to the next phase -- threatening to clean the toilet with his toothbrush.
