Re: Flu vaccine- available soon

My GP won't take appointments until they actually get the vaxx in the practice, expected around until mid November.

I just hope I can get an appointment before I head back to the States for Thanksgiving, as some years they have run out in a couple of weeks. I don't want to miss the availability window because of traveling.

Re: Flu vaccine- available soon

Unfortunately too late for me. I've been struck down with a terrible flu for almost a week now. My glands are on stalks, I have an incredibly sore throat (Making it really difficult to sleep), but luckily the fever and chills subsided after day 3.

Funny enough, I was saying just a few days before that I wanted to go and get my jab!

Sorry to hear about that! However I’m not sure it’s the “real” flu, it’s somewhat early in the season for it. Probably another nasty cold virus! Sore throat is not typically associated with flu…

Hope you get better soon!

Got mine on the 4th October in the UK during my recent ( up to 90 days ) stay in my 2nd home in the UK, even the
pharmacists are giving the flu jab in the UK.

Pharmacies give them here in Switzerland too but probably won’t start until November.
It’s best not to get it too early as the effectiveness wanes over time and peak flu season is usually January/February/March.

Why would you get a flu vaccine? We've all mostly had the covid vaccine and that basically a flu.

No. In CH its only recommended for those over 65. Perfectly healthy immune system and hope to keep it that way. I'm never sick and if I get the occasional flu or whatever every 10 years or so, so be it.

You have more than sufficient time to learn the reality of this. If you have not managed to do so you have my sympathy.

A sore throat is definitely a symptom of flu - as is swollen glands, fever and so on.

Flu can strike anytime but is more common in the Autumn and winter.

IMO, the easiest way to tell the difference is how quickly the symptoms start. In flu it is usually really rapid with severe symptoms but a cold starts slowly, with a few sniffles or sneezing.

There is a very big gap between people who think they have the flu and those that actually have the flu. That is not to say they have not been very sick, it’s just that it was not flu.

If you get flu, it takes about two weeks to go through your body and another two to four weeks to recover. So people you meet telling you they had the flu last week…..

It is very early to have the flu and if you take less than say three weeks to recover then it is unlikely to have been the flu. So still a good idea to get the jab if you were planning to do so.

Re: Flu vaccine- available soon

Everyone should decide themselves whether they want it or not. As from my experience, in my mid 30ies, had the flu, ended up in hospital being deaf up to 85 dB on both ears.....

I have been getting the jab since.
