Quality Bath Towels

Hi All... thanks for all the previous shopping suggestions.

For the past nearly two months we've been using the rental apartment towels, which are from IKEA and could double as sandpaper. We finally move next week. So I'm looking for good towels - and trying not to break the bank.

Only just started shopping, but we want at least 650 GSM, preferably higher. I went to Manor yesterday to have a quick look... and the sticker shock was real! Westa bath towels were CHF 219 each. Wonderful, but buying towels for my family and guests shouldn't cost as much as a new couch.

The BOSS towels were pretty good and on sale at 34CHF (a much better deal, but who wants BOSS emblazoned in huge letters in their bath?). And there were others as well... but before I lay out the cash... I figured folks here might have suggestions.

So am I right to assume that while Manor and Globus will have quality, it'll be top price? Are there better options to find high quality but better priced?

On line could work too!

Thanks.

Re: Quality Bath Towels

I was given 2 sets of these as a moving gift a while back. They're nice and fluffy and by the looks of it, don't break the bank.
I will say I'm no expert on towels though.

Re: Quality Bath Towels

IKEA has a range of towels, they may have a plusher variety than what is in the rental, with perhaps an even more contrived Scandi name

We have some of those and they’re lovely.

You could also have a look at rage en vogue range in Globus. They always have them on sale after Christmas so you could get a couple of steps to try now and then wait for the sales to stock up.
We really like them.

Both Next Direct and Marks and Spencer do lovely towels too but they are online options. They both ship to Switzerland and take care of all the import duties etc so there are no nasty surprises when receiving them.

You live in Geneva... drive to France?

In the German speaking part of the country is this German brand very popular and very high quality. They have shops in most outlet centers...

Once I have my car, that will be the plan! Is France that much cheaper?

Good to know about M&S and ND. And yes, I'll be waiting for after Christmas sales!

Honestly I find the quality of french towels to be seriously lacking.
They may be cheaper but they are not very nice in my opinion unless you go for the really high end stuff and then you lose the price advantage.

Re: Quality Bath Towels

I'm a bit of a sucker for quality when it comes to bath towels. I usually buy Weseta in Coop when they have their yearly sales. Comes out to a lot cheaper than the CHF 213 you mentioned.

Re: Quality Bath Towels

Like bed linens, the bath towels I have found here seem to be IMO poor quality for the price. So I source from home, usually Landsend, who deliver via Borderfree, taxes pre-paid which seems to work out a bit less expensive. Hit their sales, and you can get some serious bargains.

Landsend Germany carries their basic Supima cotton line in limited colors, on sale for 40% off at the moment:
https://www.landsend.de/de_DE/Supima...3883_color=WHI
Shipping from Landsend Germany is inexpensive.

Unfortunately LE DE doesn’t carry the full range, so if you want their luxury towels you have to go to the US store. But even their basic Supima range is better quality than what I have found in the few stores local to me carrying home goods..

Re: Quality Bath Towels

We buy ours at Alex Tissus next to HyperU in Pontarlier- they have a big sale on now too.

Quality is always subjective though- some of the very thick modern towels do not dry well IMHO and OH hates them. He likes good quality cotton, not too thin, but not too thick either. Towels, like so many things, are in the eyes of the beholder. I like bath sheets, rather than towels- just that little bit bigger.

I couldn’t agree more.

There is nothing worse than a big fluffy bath towel that just smears the water around rather than drying.

Re: Quality Bath Towels

When I threw all of mine out 10 yrs ago and replaced with high quality, we ordered from Möve in Germany.

Connected with them before and asked for a discount code given the high volume and even with paying Zoll fees it was much cheaper than buying here.

Too late, but a shame to throw them away. Your local animal rescue would have been very grateful. Just in case others think of doing same.

I think the rental might be a bit cheesed off when they ask where the towels went!

Why does everything here get twisted?

I haven’t thrown away any towels. That was a different poster.

Yes. Fully furnished short term rental apartments come with towels and sheets.

Re: Quality Bath Towels

cawo is also good. vossen has a decent price/quality ratio. I have also been happy with Schlossberger and Lexington. Mixed experience with Move - some really good, some have quickly fading colours.

My biggest disappointment is Christian Fischenbacher as look very nice and soft and the beginning but not so good after a couple of washes. Would not recommend Yves Delorme either.
