Do I get tax deduction private medical treatment?

My therapist is not affiliated with any insurance company and I have been with her for some time paying the fee directly from my bank.

I would like to know if I can use my payment record to get some kind of tax break.

I have a doctor's written statement to see the therapist I mentioned but insurance doesn't cover it unless the therapist is affiliated with them

I think you should be able to, in principle. But note that there is a min threshold under which you can't deduct medical expenses. It can be for example "5% of your net income" - so you should check the rules for this specific to your canton

Re: Do I get tax deduction private medical treatment?

Yes, the 5% is applicable.

For Vaud:

Therapy costs : costs for certain therapies (massages, radiotherapy, balneotherapy, physio, ergotherapy, occupational theray and psychotherapy, etc) are deductible providing they have been prescribed by a doctor and practised by a suitably qualified person.

Re: Do I get tax deduction private medical treatment?

Thank you so much everyone. This is the info I needed.

I started in January and should I send them on a yearly basis? As in the invoice of 2021 in December? Or is it problematic if I wait until next year?

Re: Do I get tax deduction private medical treatment?

Realistically the answer is no unless we're talking large amounts. In that case you should plan to pay everything within the same tax year. This also applies to large dental bills.
