Dishwasher maintenance - who is responsible to sort out?

Hi all
I am renting a flat and the dishwasher came installed in the flat. Drain is clogged and needs maintenance. Before contacting the landlord about this issue, just wanted to double check - who is responsible here to fix, the landlord or tenant? Thanks

Re: Dishwasher maintenance - who is responsible to sort out?

If the drain is clogged with food, it’s probably down to the tenant. It’s most likely food/fat clogging it up which should have been scraped off plates before washing. If it’s clogged due to a kink in the pipe or some fault with the installation it would be paid by the landlord.

Re: Dishwasher maintenance - who is responsible to sort out?

Have you ever cleaned the filters and used the special cleaning products for the dishwasher which cleans it inside?

When this happened to us landlord charged us as indeed we had not been doing this and it clogged the dishwasher.

Then we learned and now we do it semi regularly.

Re: Dishwasher maintenance - who is responsible to sort out?

When I moved to my flat, the landlady made it quite clear that the dishwasher didn't even belong to her and had been left by the previous tenant. So in the case that my dishwasher throws a wobbly I have nobody to blame.

Re: Dishwasher maintenance - who is responsible to sort out?

I was at someone's place here once and their dishwasher had stopped working completely.

I said I'd have a quick look. The mesh in filter basket in the bottom was completely gunked up and so as the dishwasher couldn't drain, it wouldn't fill and start a new programme.

A quick clean and it was back in operation.

Apparently the wife thought the husband cleaned it regularly and he assumed she did it!

I don't understand it when people who put dishes into their dishwasher absolutely covered in crap. I scrape any leftovers (although there is rarely ever anything left on my plate except bones) into the bin and give them a very quick 2 second rinse to get the worst of the goop off before I put them into my dishwasher and I also soak/wash any big pots and pans by hand to keep them in good condition. My dishwasher still looks like new.

We find running a cycle of the dishwasher with just a cup of white vinegar cleans up the dishwasher just as well - assuming of course the filter etc is cleaned regularly.

Apple iOS devices have a reminder function. It allows all sorts of durations; daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, annualy, every 2nd day, month, etc. i’m sure Android has something similar.

I’ve come to depend on it.

Actually I don’t use the dishwasher. It’s used as a drying rack as we hand wash our dishes. We run the dishwasher, without dishes, just to keep it clean but we just use a normal dishwashing tablet. I will look at the cleaning solution.
Tried to change the filter as it could be the issue but still can’t figure out how to do this - I’d like to do this first before calling out a maintenance person so I don’t have to spend more on the labor.

At first I thought you were being cynical or joking... then I realized maybe you are serious... You are aware that washing dishes by hand is increadibly wasteful of resources? Same goes for pre-risning of dishes. Just scrape of the leftovers and let the meshine do the work for use at its most eco setting. Then clean the filter!

We don't use our toilet. We just piss out of the window and use the toilet as a nice vase for flower arrangements.

Actually I don't use condoms. I just blow baloons out of them. Do I have to raise the resulting children or can I hand them over to the pharmacist who sold the condoms? Even if I do have to raise them, durex shoudl at least pay child support.

yes yes - I had set all of that up but it became for me more of a reminder of all the things I was never going to do. Felt very aggressed by the daily list So I stopped it.
